This is a review for the 3rd DVD right? Where's the first? How can I be introduced to a series when the first DVD you review is the last in the series :S That doesnt make any sense.

I guess you can get an idea of the whole series through the review but then it's a review of the last DVD and not a review of the complete series.

That's just the point with the Burn Up francise, it realy doesn't matter where one begins to see it, it's only about the fanservice. It's a shame really because I remember seeing the original "Warrior" series and that one had just a bit more of a plot with some charater developement to go with the fanservice which for that one wasn't too "in-your-face" if you get my meaning. Wink

It ended with a really serious plot development that left with a clift hanger, but AIC never went back to finish it. Then there was "Excess" which did exactly like it says on the tin, excessively, but with a totally different plot that was just a wallpaper for the true reason for it all. And "Scramble" is just an effort to squeeze the last drop out of it's teats, so to speak. As long as there are 16-year-old virgin lads in Japan who don't have sisters, this will keep rising up on cold days Wink

Depending on what one may or may not be looking for, there is no real reason to watch any other title. But, I had liked the Burn-Up franchise for what it continues to be, and Scramble is my favorite of the incarnations. To me, the character designs were vastly improved, and while Ryo remained largely unchanged, the re-characterizations of both Maya and Lilica were interesting to say the least. Mamiko Noto's performance made the Lilica character especially engaging, or at least more so than she might have been otherwise. I wouldn't argue the points made on the review. But just as I found some other title to be too appalling in my discernment of both its execution and producer's intent despite (or maybe contributing to) its purported "mass" appeal, Scramble was in contrast a pleasurable diversion.

I actually considered buying Burn-Up, Burn-Up Excess and Scramble, but then changed my mind.

About 3-4 months before I actually started into anime back in May 2003, I bought the last DVD of Burn-Up Excess at the BX not knowing it was the last DVD, or that it was part of TV series. I thought it was ok, but not anything really great.
