Does anyone have an Apple Watch? I only ask as I have to yet to meet anyone who owns one.

For clarification, from everything I have read, "the game" is not available for Apple Watch. It's more of a companion app, and works somewhat similar to the Pokemon GO Plus. You still have to have the actual game on your phone, and connect the AW app to it.

People by and large don't know what to do with smartwatches; outside fitness, they're just a fad that not even iChic can keep alive.

I do. I've only seen like two people in Japan wear one, though. When I was visiting the States I saw more people wear them.

The Apple Watch version is nice but still needs a lot of improvements. I hate that in order to get items from a stop when you receive a notification, not only do you need to tap the "Get Items" button from the notification, but you also need to spin the stop as you would on the phone version. Why the two-step process?? Just give us the items when we tap "Get Items"!

It's nice that walking distance will be more accurately tracked but they should have an option to not measure heart rate as that requires the sensor to be on all the time and therefore drains more battery. I think most people who use the Apple Watch app are using it for the notifications and egg hatching, not for actual workout stats.
