If Vic Mignogna goes there, it'd be an awesome reunion.

For those who don't know, when Macross was redubbed by ADV, Vic Mignogna played Hikaru Ichijou (Rick Hunter) and Mari Iijima played Minmay in both English and Japanese. More butchered classics need redubs, start with Bismark (Saber Rider) and GoLion (Voltron).

Ah I'm so jealous, would love her to come to Aus- I guess there's little interest here though, Macross had a single sub only release that was only briefly available here. As opposed to the release of somewhat higher fanfare ADV put out in the US.

Macross doesn't do well in the west unless it's butchered into Robotech. It doesn't help that anime fans don't watch old anime unless it's the OBVIOUS exception (Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z) so new fans can't support it and thus can only be catered to nostalgic fans who grew up with that version.

She practically single-handedly made that dub unwatchable (unlistenable?), unfortunately. Just because she can SPEAK English, doesn't mean she can ACT in English, as anyone could hear in the Macross dub.

Macross just does not have good luck with English dubbed versions.

I'm surprised AX is hyping this up as a big thing. Mari Ijima's been hanging around LA for decades. It's not like they couldn't have got her any time they wanted.

There is no such thing as Acting in English or Japanese, acting is acting.

Just because Mari had a thick Japanese accent in the Macross dub doesn't make it any less a performance. It's like criticizing Japense Seiyuu for speaking"Engrish" when you know they are good performers.

To some, Mari's accent works because it plays off Minmay not being American, but a young Japanese woman with a Chinese heritage.

Anyhow I'm curious about if she would return to the Macross world since Minmay was hinted still being alive in Delta.
