A fine cast, no complaints here. Leah Clark has a good deadpan, similar thoughts on Jad as Kana she has a great emotionally bland kid voice, I'm not sure about Sarah Wiedenheft as Tohru though, I feel like she's a little too high pitched for that character.

Just finished looking at the cast on Funi's site. Sounds pretty good, always nice to hear Leah Clark in a starring role. I think she'll fit Kobayashi well. Sarah Weidenheft is like the Simuldub MVP, I swear she is nearly everything. No complaints though she's pretty good. Though for whatever reason I pictured Tia Ballard as Tohru when I thought of her english voice.

I've only heard Garret Storms as Rogue in FT, but hearing that voice coming from Fafnir sounds about right. Jad Saxton i a bit odd to me as Kanna (I was thinking of Monica Rial or maybe Alison Viktorin) but I imagine she'll do fine.

As for the technical crew, I don't think I've heard anything Kyle Philips has directed, but the show should be just as funny in english if Jamie Marchi is doing the scripts. She excels at this kind of stuff (She'll be great as Lucoa as well).

I thought for sure Tia Ballard would direct this (though Kyle is also a good choice). This totally messes up my director predictions lol.
Here are my new predictions:
Tia Ballard - Masamune-kun's Revenge
Sonny Strait - elDLIVE
Brandon Potter - Chain Chronicle

^ Wow, did you read my mind? My director predictions are the same as yours! Laughing

Anyway, this is the last show I'm really interested in this season, so it was REALLY tough waiting for the cast list. Seriously, you have no idea... But now the cast list is finally here, and it doesn't look half bad!

It feels like it's been a really long time since Leah Clark has played a lead character, and she knows how to do a good deadpan, so that's awesome!

For some reason, I was picturing Tia Ballard as the voice of the Dragon Maid Tohru (same as Punch Drunk Marc), but I love Sarah Wiedenheft and I know she'll be great.

Jad Saxton is gonna do her Jad Saxton thing as Kanna. So that's cool, I guess.

I'm not too familiar with Garret Storms' work outside of maybe Rogue from Fairy Tail, but his voice should work for Fafnir, right?

Jamie Marchi as Quetzalcoatl, a tall and voluptuous woman who likes to get drunk? Sounds about right.

Dubs directed by Kyle Phillips have a habit of sounding a little rough in the beginning before improving later on, but it could turn out like his dub of Overlord, which was great from the beginning. Either way, I'm really excited to finally check this show out.

Other than Jad Saxton not sounding like a little girl, the cast looks solid. If I keep liking the show I hope the dub is good and that it gets a BD release.

I'm looking forward to this one! Quirky comedies can be difficult to dub, but they also can do a lot to make some of the more performance-intensive jokes land better for fans who can't speak Japanese. The announcement looks great, I can't wait!

Considering Tohru's personality I think Monica Rial wouldve been a good option too

She also voiced Celeste in HuniePop so it's not like she doesn't have range.

Leah playing a girl that swings that way is kind of funny. That's because her "Baka and Test" character is a flat-chested tomboy who has a female stalker but Shimada said (at least in the dub) that "doesn't swing that way".

Listening through the dub right now, and I've gotta say, Leah Clark makes for a decent Miss Kobayashi. She's got the deadpan/serious voice down, and I like her lines in the adaptation, very fitting of the character so far.

This is my first real chance to hear Sarah Wiedenheft, though I think I recall hearing an episode or two of the dub of Tokyo ESP where she was Rinka, and that was pretty good. Her voice as Tohru is pretty interesting, very spastic and cheery, and she works very well with Tohru's many mood swings and I like her angry/beastly voice.

Jeff Johnson plays Takiya a bit deeper than I'd expect, but it's still alright. I don't recall ever hearing him before either, so props to landing a role on this prominent show. The bit of Fafnir in this episode was pretty well delivered as well. I like Jamie Marchi as Lucoa, and yeah, I know she's gotten a TON of simuldub roles lately, but she's one of my favorites, and does really well. I cannot wait to hear more of her in future episodes. And the tiny bit of Kanna we got sounds cute so far - I think Jad can pull off the goth-loli dragon!

I think I'll watch this whole dub once it finishes airing, midway through next season. I'm glad that Funimation is dubbing this one because if anyone else got this KyoAni show, it'd be pretty pricey for me to get it (seeing as I'm a huge KyoAni fan, and this one is REALLY good so far). I'm looking forward to owning whatever special edition will come of this show next year. And speaking of KyoAni, now that Funimation has rescued Lucky Star, Haruhi and Nichijou, who else is hoping they get the license to Hyouka?!

-Marc.
