Yes, but will we actually understand GAINAX when we finish reading it? Laughing (2:1 says no)

Sounds like a good summer read, anyway.

The "Trial In Absentia" section I mentioned is quite telling on that point. It's clear from that discussion that even the key people working for GAINAX don't really understand it themselves.

Of course, that's part of the reason why the company had some of the troubles that it did in the early-to-mid-90s. (Curiously, though, that had nothing to do with the tax evasion issue. That was partly a deliberate act by one key GAINAX person to help them through a rough financial period and partly the result of Takeda being too distracted by the post-natal medical problems of his daughter to be paying proper attention to company accounting practices.)

I started the book this morning after picking it up at Comic Relief (in Berkeley) yesterday.

Suggestion for readers, use 3 bookmarks, place one where you are in the book, the others at pages 100 and 183. These two locations are where the notes begin, and the notes are worth reading. When you start the second part of the book shift the first bookmark to page 173 for the notes that go with the second part.

Good reading so far, I'm at page 29.

Just finished reading the review. I think it's worth a read.

As someone who works for an art college library, this would be an excellent suggestion for students and instructors teaching animation history here. We already have faculty that have already requested a great deal of media by 'Gainax'. Most of which were past suggestions and some I made myself. Which have already been used inside and outside of the class.

I may want to give this one a read myself. There is a lot of history in many of these animation studios to date. Most of which can't all be told. But it's good to know some of what goes on. But they have come a long way. Wink
