Better late than never! This gem has been available for us for a while, though the R1 area was strangely denied it until now.

I am curious about the choice of cover art. From what I recall, no beach scene occurs in the film itself. One can only assume it was chosen to reflect the aquatic theme the title misleadingly suggests.

FINALLY!

Been waiting for his one for a while.

It does look like now that My Neighbors the Yamadas will probably be the last Ghibli movie to be released on Blu ray in the States. Disney's obviously not doing the release of Yamadas HD in the US themselves.. We'll obviously NOT see the exclusive Ghibli museum shorts or the music videos anytime soon officially (in the US).

As for lack of a dub -- not a deal-breaker for me.
I saw Ocean Waves last year (February 2016) well ahead of the "first-time ever" US GKids premiere of Ocean Waves... Seriously, does NOBODY fact-check online or ask fans whether these films were SCREENED BEFORE either GKids or Disney showcased/released them in theaters? In most cases, they HAVE been show at film fests and art theaters LONG before a corporate entity licensed them for home video!

I initially skipped Only Yesterday on import video because what I saw subtitled on TCM bored me to tears. (I have to be VERY motivated to spend $60 on something I didn't care for that much OR bored me... even with a desire to have the complete Ghibli feature film library.) The lackluster dub with the VERY flat performance by Daisy Ridley didn't change my opinion of that film.

I was surprised by how much more I liked Ocean Waves. I just could not get into Only Yesterday. It's easily the weakest Ghibli movie from where I stand.
That's saying something with how I felt about The Wind Rises and Princess Mononoke... Yes, I'm one of the guys who did NOT care for Princess Mononoke. Maybe my mind will change if I see it again (or get around to watching Goro Miyazaki's Tales from Undersea) but I felt it was distinctly pessimistic and not Miyazaki at his best. The Wind Rises -- well, not every loveletter to aviation or salute to an aircraft designer comes off well. I don't know what was particularly compelling enough about the life of the Zero fighter designer to choose him as the subject of a fictionalized, animated movie. Had it been more like Porco Rosso or Castle in the Sky, Miyazaki would have himself greater favors!
