I wonder whether it'll be an original story and what the 'zero' on the title means.

As implied by the LN author on his twitter some time ago, It will be an adaptation of the 6th volume of the light novel, which tells the story spoiler[of the Great War that happened 6000 years ago.]

This will be following the 6th volume on the LN. There's.... not much hilarity to be had since violence is very much possible, unlike the rest of the show. No protection from stronger races in this movie...

Kōji Ōdate is returning to design the characters and serve as chief animation director.

This part of the article is not correct, as the official website clearly states that Satoshi Tasaki is the character designer of the film.

All I can say is....FINALLY. I was wondering when they were gonna announce news on this film since it's already well into the year. The key visual looks pretty cool though I wonder why Sora and Shiro's hair color are different now. I haven't actually read the light novels so I wouldn't really know. But anyway I'm really looking forward to when it gets released here in North America. I hope Sentai Filmworks make the effort to license this film as well and give it a dub like the first series.

Game on! Nope, wrong franchise...

By the sounds of the story, it really explains why 1) Madhouse is making the sequel a movie and 2) Why Madhouse is making a sequel of any kind in the first place. spoiler[It's not a sequel, it's a prequel. Let's hear it for plot advancement!]

What percentage of series in the past few years that have gotten a follow-up movie have gotten a sequel series afterward?

I'd love for it to be proven this is an incorrect perception on my part, but it seems to me getting a movie is more often akin to a kiss of death to the possibility of a sequel TV series.
