Looks just as terrible (if not worse) than season 1. Why ruin such an excellent manga which is known for its art give it such a low quality release? Just an insult to the manga at this stage.

I honestly thought from the poster that it was going to be like kingdom. Have the first season cgi and the second regular animation but i guess i was wrong. Guess i can take this off my ptw list now , at least the mangas going to continue soon.

For those who are still shocked of why the CG:
Quote: | For everybody who doesn't understand why they can't get better animation or CGI, here are the main reasons.
The Magazine foots the bill for anime adaptations and Young Animal isn't rolling in cash. They have a bimonthly release circulation of just 120,000 issues sold with issues costing around $3-$5. Compared to WSJ having a weekly release of 2.15 million issues sold, Young Animal sells around 1/36 the amount WSJ does in a 2 week period.
Young Animal is mostly filled with sexy romantic comedies like Futari Ecchi and still relies on putting pin up girls on the cover to sell new issues. Berserk has been with the magazine since it was created 27 years ago, but its content makes it an anomaly compared to every other manga series published there.
Due to the mature content, there aren't many animes made from the magazine that air on TV (Berserk managed to squeeze by due to airing late at night and editing out genitalia). They make 12 episodes of a series at the most which is usually direct to DVD.
Animes are usually produced at a loss so the way the publishers make up their losses is by increased sales of the new manga volumes. But since Miura has a sporadic release schedule, they could only have one volume out by the time the anime was airing. Berserk has a lot more action compared to other series YA makes an adaptation for and they can't rely on cost saving measures like panning out shots used repeatedly. So they're resorting to poorly implemented CGI for the action in order to save costs.
tldr version, the magazine can't cover the costs for proper animation due to low circulation sales of the magazine and inadequate forms of alternative revenue. |
And remember that Miura is a producer of the series. Meaning he also could help to choose the studio because he was also worried his "fans" never could see a new animation of his work. I understand the criticism for this series and question why Sangatsu no Lion, another Young Animal manga, got lucky with Shaft, but with fans like this, who go as far as obligate you to read the manga when you don´t like to read I don´t know what to think.

CGI Berserk strikes again. They tried fooling us with that 2D poster but this little teaser confirmed everything we need to know

How did the movies work then? Someone else must have footed the bill, if the magazine is doing so poorly.
Really, if other animation studios aren't willing to use their own money to adapt something as infamous as Berserk, I think the most of the fandom would rather we didn't have an anime. The revived series is just completely insulting.

I think the answer for that is fairly obvious.
-For one, Sangatsu no Lion is a bigger name manga than Berserk. Lot less niche.
-It's also far more approachable and less dependant on an existing fanbase, it's published fairly regularly (Umino's health issues aside), and is currently only 12 volumes long (relatively easy purchase and read), as opposed to Berserk's 38 (what interested viewer has money to buy and time to read all that?!).
Accordingly, the anime airs on NHK in a pretty approachable time (11 pm, sure it's night but it's not like 2 am or something).
-They planned to make it a multi-media franchise from the start. There's the manga, there's the anime and there will be (are?) two live action movies.
(-And I'm not sure how much Umino Chica's preferences helped, but she obviously preferred Shaft.)
In short, Sangatsu no Lion is a lot more marketable than Berserk. There's a lot more money to be made with it so people are more eager to invest in it. Berserk is basically coasting along on its infamy and the dedication of its dwindling fanbase.

Cue Tell Me Why... Am i really about to watch next season´s pilot? Nothing good can come from it. Just look at this (but the rubbish scrips pain me more). Please read the manga, please:
A plot point nearly 2 decades in the making is now approaching it´s resolution on March the 24 with the return of the manga. 11/10 news there.

I don't see how they're suffering especially where the anime is concerned given it's covering parts of the story many of them have already read in the pages of the manga.

This is why I started reading the manga. Looks like it's about time to continue too, still have 150-or-so chapters to go.
