38 full-house screenings is pretty good considering it was only shown in 101 theaters.

Is that really bad? I didn't even think it was supposed to be big to begin with, I didn't expect it to make it into top #10 at all lol

For a limited release niche anime film it's fine, people just like to circlejerk "LUL Fairy Tail sucks" with little basis or understanding. Fairy Tail could do amazing and people wouldn't give it any credit because the internet Anime Elite have convinced everyone it's trash even though it's perfectly fine and it's problems are present in nearly every major Shonen.

To be fair, more than 100 screens in Japan isn't THAT limited. That's a little above half a regular release, results couls be better.

Lmao so much wrong with this post.

Anyway, all those problems are much much worse in FT. The intrusive fan service during serious moments, the freindship power ups, the often lack of foreshadowing, generic forgettable character designs and forgettable and under-developed villains (besides Zeref who is fine) ... the list goes on... there's a reason it has that reputation. Didn't just come out of nowhere. One Piece, Hunter x Hunter or FMA this is not (that doesn't mean those series don't have problems either, but they're overall much more tightly written than FT, if only Togashi could actually finish HxH but that's another point...)

But I'll give credit where credit is due, since you seem bitter that people s**t on FT - it otherwise performs well, regardless.... but not with this movie as you can see, lmfao.

There are not "Friendship" power ups in Fairy Tail, Mashima doesn't like them, he always uses some cheat or logic to give a power up.

I actually really like how FT manages the power of friendship thing since it's literal power of friendship, in other words, the power of a friend in FT is the friend physically arriving to help.

But such a thing like a straight power-up that comes from friendship (like in Saint Seiya or Yugi-Oh") is not a thing on FT.

The sad part is that when I ask people for examples the best they can do is pointing at Erza vs Azuma and Natsu vs Zero, 2 fights one million of chapters ago with on page explanations of what happened.

That's pitiful.

The last Fairy Tail movie bombed which was they never kept making them. After all these years they've tried again and it's bombed just the same. There won't be a third one.

That's not true though. The author has said in an interview that plans for another movie started happening as soon as the first movie was finished.

I still don't understand why #10 is as bad as y'all are making it sound to be.

I am curious... how much does an Anime movie like this costs?

I mean, it's not Madhouse making it so the animation is not top notch, I don't see how can it cost more than 3 standard anime episodes with decent animation.

Don't wanna get into a huge debate or anything, but fairy tail is at fault for a lot of the flack it gets. I mean sure, friendship moments and asspull powers/ events happen in other shounen. But the frequency and extent to which those tropes go in fairy tail is a big turn off for many. It's what made me drop it anyway. Not saying the show can't still be enjoyable, but those flaws do exist.

Isn't being at number 10 still fairly good? There are always new movies coming out so getting in a chart at all still seems pretty decent...

@cloud810:
Being #10 on your first week means you barely made the list and you couldn't even sell more tickets than films that had been on movie theaters for some weeks, you can read in the article that pretty much every movie was on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th week and still had a good spot, e.g. Beauty & Beast has been #1 for 3 weeks straight.

So yeah it's pretty bad, though maybe not as bad if we consider how many movie theaters were showing Fairy Tail.
http://eiga.com/ranking/

You can clearly see that every movie except for Fairy Tail had at least 250 Movie Theaters showing it while Fairy Tail had only 101, though my guess is the distributor knows that if they put Fairy Tail in more theaters it probably wouldn't mean more tickets sold, but just people going to different movie theaters to watch the movie.. I hope I made sense haha

I'm no expert so I wouldn't really know TBH.
