Rudol von Stroheim in Battle Tendency (JJBA) goes from awakening one of earth's greatest menaces to helping the main character in defeating a perfect lifeform. Enough said.

After taking a peak at the Sailor Moon wikia, my suspicions about Nephrite's bit being based on filler nonsense were confirmed. I don't know why it's included in this list then, since the Nephrite in the manga is evil and isn't an anti-villain at all. I don't know why this site only likes concentrating on a character's anime counterpart, when half the time they aren't like their manga counterpart at all.

I Iove how the nephrite entry highlights the reason why the sailor moon anime is much better tha the manga.the mangais just a dry peice that is moving the plot form point a to point B, withotu any tought to having good charcters or even being entertaining, teh anime, being constrained to the mosnetr of the week format, struggled and succeeded to find ways to make each episode unique, most of the time by adding small bits of development and/or interaction to the characters.

Villains worthy of redemption or dark hero types are always interesting pieces of work. It often makes me picture asking a lot of these bad to the bone types if being an outright baddie is really what they want. Of course some of them do make for very awesome agents of evil, but you know.

Regarding the results, of course my husbando didn't win a spot at all. =(

Because the original 90s anime is vastly superior to the manga because of the so-called "filler nonsense" and is the version that most people remember?

If there's ever a similar list for games, Ghaleon from the Lunar franchise will certainly be one of the top contenders... Or perhaps not, Lunar might be too old at this point for the current crop of players to recognize...

A little sad, but not surprised that my one true love, Chitanda Eru didn't make the cut. Crying or Very sad
In all likelihood, I was probably her only vote....

Current waifu is Hanekawa, but Chitanda holds a special place in my heart. <3

Though it barely needs to be said, Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There is a character that has proven to be more politically prescient than anyone would have liked...

Interesting that Ryōko is No. 1 in last week's poll...Perhaps Tenchi Muyō was more popular than I thought...

For what it's worth he didn't really help defeat Kars himself, he did however cause Kars to Awaken into his Ultimate form though.....and saved Joseph from breaking his legs at the expense of his own.

My FIRST waifu according to that poll would have been Sango from Inuyasha although my favorite is Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate.

As for villains who saved the day, obviously yes they forgot Lordgenome and Viral (and Rossiu!) from Gurren Lagann among many others. Also Sesshomaru from Inuyasha (and to a lesser extent Kagura and Kanna in Inuyasha The Final Act), Satsuki Kiryuuin and her entire Student Council from Kill la Kill, almost all the villains in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, Scar and Dr. Marcoh from both Fullmetal Alchemist series, Lust as well as Hohenheim from the original Fullmetal Alchemist, Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, half the shinigami in Bleach if you consider them villains during the early story arcs prior to Rukia's scheduled execution, most of the zanpakuto in the Bleach filler arc where the zanpakuto rebel and then get tamed, actually if you look at the manga most of the villains from earlier in the Bleach temporarily turn hero in the last story arc that isn't in the anime in the Thousand Year Blood War against Yhwach (including, once again, Grimmjow among many others, but even including the biggest bad guy in the anime, Sosuke Aizen), and if you think of Lelouch as the good guy in Code Geass and Suzaku as a villain like I do then Suzaku becomes a hero near the end, and in Baccano! and Durarara! there are a ton of characters who switch from villainous to good (like the Rail Tracer in Baccano!), and who can forget Lucy in Elfen Lied, and in Magical Girl Pretty Sammy there is of course Pixy Misa who turns from evil to good, and of course in Naruto the powerful demonic spirit of the 9-tailed fox inside Naruto turns from evil to good, and in Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate the main character Alucard already turned from evil to good before the show started, and in Steins;Gate various characters can be villainous in some worldlines but turn out to be good in others (Mr. Braun, Moeka Kiryuu, Nae Tennouji, Makise Kurisu, and even Okabe Rintarou), and of course there is Vegeta in Dragonball Z, and in the original Tenchi Muyo OVA series there's Zero (the evil clone of Ryoko who turns out not to be evil), and in 3x3 Eyes there is Ran Pao Pao as well as Howasho, in Trigun Nicholas D. Wolfwood seems like a good guy but turns out to be a bad guy but then turns out to be a good guy after all, in the movie Spirited Away literally all of the villains end up turning into good guys, in Rurouni Kenshin the main character Kenshin is one of many former villains who turns good and many many others do the same, this also happens with a ton of characters in Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu), in Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt the character Garterbelt is a former bad guy turned priest and boss of the heroes, in Serial Experiments Lain the Knights of Eastern Calculus start out as bad guys but then they help Lain and then she has the Men in Black kill them but she turns out to be a hero in the end somehow and brings back everyone who got killed, in Monster a whole bunch of formerly villainous people such as Franz Bonaparta and Inspector Lunge and the crooked cop who killed Nina Fortner's foster parents end up becoming heroic, and even Satan himself turns out to be a good guy in The Devil is a Part-Timer!

Actually it's much harder to think of anime where this doesn't happen, villains turning heroic, than where it does, at least for anime with lots of episodes. I'm trying to think of even a single anime where this doesn't happen and... no, sorry, can't think of any... literally any anime I can think of, I can think of someone who went from villainous to good, it's possibly even more common than good characters turning villainous, which also seems to be universal. So making a list of villains who turned heroic seems kinda pointless.

As far as games from Japan, yes, Ghaleon from the Lunar series went from bad guy to good guy, also Magus in Chrono Trigger, Golbez in Final Fantasy 4, Faris and Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy 5, Cid and Ultros in Final Fantasy 6, Bowser in Super Mario RPG, Viper and the Devas and Fargo and Harle and Grobyc and a whole bunch of other characters in Chrono Cross (I don't count Lynx because that is just a body-swap with Serge), and there are just countless others in other games.
