I think this show is going to take some patience to get through. The pacing and storytelling feels sluggish with heavy dialogue usage. While I do like some of the characters, I hope they develop them more. The cases presented so far in this show aren't very exciting yet either so I hope that will change soon.

Still think this show has potential though but it will take time to show.

So there's something in the second and third episodes that isn't inherently snooze-inducing? I might eventually watch more, then, although it'll definitely be on a day and time when I'm well-rested.

Honestly I don't have as many issues with this show as other people. I'm actually really enjoying it so far.

'm also interested in Sumire's character. She dies suddenly at the end of the second episode, so the show can teach Asai a lesson about recklessly resetting time. He'd kissed Misora in order to see how it felt, but then reset time when he didn't want to live with the consequences. This was around the time that Sumire died, and you can't reset the same timeframe more than once without "saving" in advance, so Sumire should be dead permanently. Then again, she's all over the opening and ending, so there's obviously a shoe left hanging somewhere. She's the one who got Asai involved with Misora, and her ability hasn't been disclosed, so there's a good chance she's still around plotting something.
I don't think that's quite right. Sumire doesn't knock on Asai's door the second time around, so there was something different the second time around more significant than just "Sumire died in the meantime and Misora can't reset again."

There's a third part to the first arc that looks like it's going to come later in the show, so maybe it'll make more sense then.

^ Yeah, the second episode being part 2 of 3 and then the third episode being part 1 of another story pretty much settles that that's going to come up and be very significant in the future.

I do wonder if every arc is going to end up being a reset, and then things change instead of being the same, throwing a wrench in their plans. We've had it twice already. I guess that's really the only way to make a reset present new things, but still.

As much as I detest the "binge" model, I feel like this is a series designed for that model. Obviously it is a weekly series, but the way the show is set up is more definite in the setup where you need to see a lot of it to really get into the show. I'm trying to get a feel for why it is exactly, but in re-watching the first three episodes, the dialogue didn't feel as long winded and dominating as the first time. Certainly a part of it is that I was already familiar with what was going on, but I think it's also because it feels more put together that way. It's odd, since the episodes don't end on particularly rough cliffhangers or anything like that, no worse than any other show this or any recent season. But even with what should be good break points, some stories just don't lend themselves to chunk presentation.

I agree that the episode titles are important in the hook for this series. Knowing there is another part to the first group of episodes shows that there is at least forethought and planning, and that there is something more to where the story is going, not just hope that there is.

But this is definitely a very cerebral show, by which I mean that it is assuming that the audience is going to be very engrossed in the mechanics of the dialogue and the trips down esoteric thinking, more so than any great visual or action experience. That doesn't imply one has to be some adept philosophical thinker or any such thing, but that you can't really just look at the screen without paying close attention to what characters are saying, as many shows will allow you to do. The question is how well they'll ultimately execute on this.

You certainly need to pay attention and process things to follow what's going on. Unfortunately, the show just hasn't given me much of a reason to do so. Do I care about what happens to these automatons, sorry, characters? No, not really. Do their problems seem real and significant? Not to me. So why am I going to spend time and energy to keep up with the plot?

I've decided to take the teacher's words to heart and just pretend everyone is speaking sarcastically all the time to entertain myself.

"Why's she in a marble" said with a straight face cracked me up because of that. I recommend this approach.

Is the novel this is based on any good? Because even if it as a faithful adaptation, I think it must be a sucky, crappy novel. 5 episodes in, and it's easier to say "I gave up on this one" than "It'll get better".

People joke about "sleep aid" shows, but this is so boring I am almost convinced it is designed to be that way. This latest episode being twenty minutes of the personality-less main character literally talking to a marble had me questioning if an actual person wrote this or an alien attempting to recreate human logic and emotion.

On the phone with the witch I thought he said something about going to a relative's (grandparent?) house so that's probably where he's living.

He goes into a photo to talk to a lady who gives him orders. (Note: it turns out that his ability activates when he takes a photo and not when he rips it up to go inside later. So without his ability, he can still enter photos – he just can't produce any new ones.) Apparently he wants to revive her, even if it ends up costing a lot of other people

Given she has the power to see the future of who they touch, presumably she is the witch from before or at the beginning of the Bureau. Since she is still alive (for now), revival probably isn't the goal, but no doubt whatever their plan is, it will inconvenience some in the Bureau.

I definitely think the poor character animation is contributing to Kei and Haruki's lack of expression. Even if they didn't express themselves vocally, they could show there was some emotion underneath their unexpressive facade with some subtle character animation. But no, in addition to talking and sounding like robots, they look more like androids pretending to be people than actual people. Maybe Sumire knew something we didn't.

This episode is really only watchable for me for the Kana Hanazawa performance it's just so lifeless and phoned in that it's kind of glorious. Other than that I just endure it because the writing is a special kind of bad

Given how every other aspect (writing, direction, animation) is inclined in that direction for her character and Kei, I'm thinking it was supposed to be that way. That being said, I think Aoi Yuuki's brief performance in the episode was better, but I think she is a better actor anyway.

I think the intended effect is that MC was more ruthless in his methods before The Dead Character died. He essentially ruined this girl's family by giving her blackmail material, whereas these days he's been taking the safe path by giving girls lollipops and blowing his own head up then loading a save. So I'm Home wants to take away the reset that lets his deal with things in a safe manner so he can go back to 'saving' people with shittier methods. But sealing it didn't have any presentable effect on him at the light house, and so she walks right into the 'make her give Loop another memory so she'll be able to reset again' plan, I guess. The stuff with the photo and the witch is a little more intriguing overall, if only because it's not painfully predictable.
