We also just got the new English-language volume of the original A Certain Magical Index light novel series (which is still ongoing in Japan under the title A Certain Magical Index: New Testament).

It's pretty good, although we're still 2 volumes away from non-animated content, and 3 volumes away from the introduction of the franchise's third male protagonist / harem lead (EDIT: I guess he technically shows up in the short story collection first, but it's anyone's guess whether they'll actually license it).

I'm also looking forward to Magical Girl Raising Project especially since volume one will be a self contained story and each subsequent volume will different spoiler[POV characters]. I'll be interested in seeing in how Yen Press handles the translation.

Given the controversy with main fan translator of the series, making parts of the story up out whole cloth or grossly mistranslating parts of it due to subpar knowledge of Japanese and not reading the text deliberately and rushing it out online.

And than trying to pass it off as an accurate translation. Only to be called out by other fans for it and having his bad translations and fabrications "infect" everything from the fan Wiki to The TV Tropes page for Magical Girl Raising Project.

I wish I could say I'm excited about If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord but I had one of the main twists spoiled for me on 4chan finding out that spoiler[Dale and Latina become a couple] latter on in the series. So if you are put off by that sort of thing consider yourself warned.

I wish I could say I'm excited about the Online licenses but I can't read E-Books because my eye sight is too bad. I have the Your Name Light novel and plan to get around to reading it at some point. However hearing it compared to a Jun Maeda work leaves me apprehensive. As I do not particularly care Maeda's brand of writing anymore.

Grimgar is another series I'm really looking forward to as well of course I'll probably wait till I get a couple volumes before I read it. Also the latest volume of Legend of the Galactic Heroes is due out as well on the 20th of June so there is that as well.

It's really, really hard to find a light novel with the word "daughter" in the title these days that doesn't instantly fill me with suspicion and dread.

On the other hand, spoilers like that make others like me more eager to check it out(j-novel membership sure comes in handy here) Cool... I assume this development is from the webnovel as the light novel adaptation is only 5 volumes so far?

Apparently it's got a manga spinoff, will have to check out those scanlated chapters....

Glad to see manga and light novels get even more coverage here! I am waiting for my ginormous RightStuf preorders to ship, but I am not caught up on the LNs that I have already received, so no big deal there. Definitely going to get in on J-Novel Club when I run out of stuff to read Smile

Really happy to see these sections for manga and light novels on the site now! The little blurbs about the books are super helpful and I even plan on picking up most of the ones mentioned now. Thanks ANN & reviewers!!!

Light novel reviews too?! This is exciting, even if I won't read half of what's brought over (isekai and ebooks aren't my favourite things Sad ). I might pick up Rokka though. I've not seen the anime, so the twist is still a surprise.

@ Parsifal: that sucks! I'm sure Yen Press will give it a much better translation. While I can't vouch for the accuracy of their translations against the Japanese, their writing, editing and phrasing is pretty solid, with fewer sentences that pull you out of the story and make you think "that was a translation" (comparing early volumes of Spice and Wolf to more recent series they've published).

Since you haven't seen the anime, an important part of the synopsis is missing from the review.

A straight fantasy novel rather than an isekai story, the plot follows a group of seven people claiming to each be one of six legendary chosen “Braves,” a special warrior who will drive back evil and protect the kingdom.

Doesn't make sense to look for a fake without that key piece of information Surprised

We can't neglect the fact that there are some very interesting continuing volumes as well, so do bear in mind that the final volume of Spice and Wolf comes out in June...

If I may note, that volume of Spice & Wolf is not final as Volume 19: Spring Log II has been published just last month in Japan. This is it's release info: May 10, 2017, ISBN 978-4-04-892891-5
Really, didn't anyone notice or what? When it's such delish info?

That's right. And lets not forget Yen Press slates the preliminary release date of the first volume of the sequel to Spice & Wolf, Parchment & Wolf spoiler[featuring Myuri, Holo and Lawrence's daughter], for November, so with any luck, we might get the English release of Spring Log II before that.

Only those who have read Rokujouma may know that everything that is happening on earlier volume will have significance meaning once you have reach the "answer" part. You will know that nothing is wasted and all of it are carefully planned.

I recently moved houses and am now struggling to get all my books in my (two) bookshelves.

And yet (after seeing this article) I want to buy more books.
Maybe I should go for digital books... But I feel like I don't read as much if it's like that...........
