Gotta agree with you, Nick, The Eccentric Family is 1 of my favorite series also. Happy to see a 2nd Season as it looks like it will be as interesting as the 1st one was.

So happy that this show is back and very curious about Nidaime! How did the fallout with Akadam come to pass? What was/is his relationship with Benten? Does he enjoy his tanuki hot pot?!.

And of course, i'm very excited to see our adorably stupid tanuki family back in action (and i hope we'll be seeing more of Yajirou this season).

Ah, this hasn't lost a step in its absence!

I loved the little backstory it opened with, and all the delightful quirks along the way of setting up the new season. Like the twins little rotary dance (and the old lady behind them - and it's just like this series to not forget about her afterward, showing her dizzily reeling well after the original joke was over), or the fact that the current Trick Magister operates out of a proctology office! Are all the clients tanuki and tengu, et al? They seemed to be discussing things very openly.

For some reason it never occurred to me that Nidaime was another kidnapped human. I wonder if Akadama picked him up for Benten and then got too attached to her to follow through?

I'm also looking forward to learning more about Jurojin, who had me intrigued last season, since he looks like a tengu. Or else he's the actual Lucky God of Longevity. I'll keep a lookout for deer...

I really liked how the whole scene with the elderly painter unfolded. This series has a weird knack for blending what's-going-to-happen suspense with a warm, homey ambience. Smile Yasaburo just walking through the forest was enough to raise the tension at what he'd run into and what sort of reception he'd get, and Tenmaya possibly having escaped from Hell is an interesting turn. He's got those sly, half-lidded Ebisugawa eyes, so we know he's dangerous.

Speaking resemblances, from that vignette that began the season, I have to wonder if Tousen wasn't fooling around a little herself. The kid to the left on the steps looks kinda familiar... >.>

The third episode was just amazing, every scene was great in its own rights.

I particularly liked the grand mother scene, I'm still not quite sure if she's actually drawn or if they actually filmed some fur ball or something cause the way her hair moved was impressive.

I want to move in with Nidaime. He could iron my shirts and we'd have very British tea time together. I'd even let him keep his beleoved chaise! Laughing That scene between him and Benten was hilarious, i just hope she won't kill him, he's too amusing to die...

Now if only Yajirou will finally manage to de-frog himself, i'll be truly happy.

I don't understand how my main takeaway from episode 3 was barely mentioned in the review: SOMEONE STOOD UP TO BENTEN! Yes! Go, Nidaime! I hope Yasaburo learns a thing or two from what he witnessed: no matter how pretty or charming or intriguingly enigmatic a person is, no matter how attracted you may be to that person, you shouldn't let them walk all over you and treat you like dirt.

I can't be the only viewer who wants to see Benten taken down a peg. Not only for the satisfaction of seeing someone tell her "no," but because it might actually lead to some character development on her part, and on Yasaburo's. Very excited to see how she reacts next week (gracelessly, no doubt) and where things go from there.

No, you're not the only one happy to see someone tell Benten to get Bent. Judging from the sort of show it is, though, I don't think it will end well for Nidaime.

Never a dull moment when Nidaime's around. He's my favorite in the series so far. His character and mannerisms remind me of Phileas Fogg. They even dress somewhat similarly. And TWICE now the show has ended with a fight seemingly about to go down involving Nidaime but I'm not getting my hopes up. Nope. Not this time!

Tenmaya's also pretty interesting. Too bad Benten had to drop in and slow his roll, just when things were getting good. Then she suddenly shows up at Nidaime's house like she owns the place, I mean, the nerve! Would someone please just foosh her out the window already?

Really? I see them as the likely couple to emerge from this story which will piss off his father to no end.

The ED gives me the impression Benten and Nidaime are going to become an item, but are going to end up falling out pretty badly.

Laughing Hmm...I think Nidaime can hold his own. That's why this is such an interesting match up.

I have to look up this Phileas Fogg of whom you speak.

I have no love for Tenmaya (in fact, I find him hopelessly annoying in the worst way), so I actually appreciated her swooping down that moment and taking back Yasaburo's moon--until Tenmaya left and she threatened to keep it. At least she gave it back!

Wouldn't she just fly away? Wink

Wait, wait, what? Seriously?...Guess that makes sense. After all, they're similar in personality, and dating someone they don't want you to is a great way to feel you're getting revenge on bad parents!

Benten and Nidaime are the two proudest and most temperamental of The Eccentric Family's stars, so it's no surprise that their first meeting ends in tears.

Tears? Who was shedding tears? oO Nidaime rolled over and went to sleep, and Benten stood up with murder in her eyes.

Great scene though. I was expecting him to just tell her she could sleep on the floor if she insisted on staying, but when he dumped her on the floor, I was all, "Oh no he di'int!" Laughing

I was also delighted by her timely arrival. Who knew she was bulletproof? I thought it was interesting that Yasaburo didn't tell Nidaime he knows who has his rifle. I suspect that's a Chekov's gun that will just keep on being fired.

And Oba-chan! What a treat she was! I loved how she gradually took shape during the conversation, from amorphous fluff ball to fluff ball with bangs and eyes. She just radiated "gentle" even before she spoke. Very Happy And she gives great advice!

He's the main character in Around the World in 80 Days. Basically a typical (for genre literature) cool Brit with OCD when it comes to proper rituals like afternoon tea and correct dress.

I love Benten and the power she holds over everyone she encounters. But it is interesting to see her fail.

The train car/bus in the well made me laugh out loud. Completely unexpected.

I love the plucking of the moon from the sky. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. The way it kept its luminosity was just gorgeous. And I love how the surrounding light changed whenever it moved.

Yeah, the whole thing with that moon was amazing. Interesting illusion in that it wasn't just Yasaburo who was affected by it.

I realized I called Tousen's mother by Tousen's married name, but I guess if she's Tousen's mother, that's wrong. I don't think we know what Tousen's maiden name is. But as I was rewatching that scene to see if it was mentioned, I noticed that when she asked Tousen to smell her, those elegant wisps of fur moved toward her, either on the air she was breathing in, or because Oba-chan was lifting her fur to be sniffed. It always floors me how much attention they pay to the smallest details in this (that OP is the busiest thing I've seen in ages).

Isn't this in part about territory though? The father is supposed to control a certain amount of territory except there's been squatters moving in like the other Tengu and Tenmaya. Benten has been acting like its her playground, but at the same time people have been hoping she returns from her vacation and maybe chases them off. Then you have Nidaime who takes up roost in the territory and embarrasses his old man. He could be considered another player for the territory, so of course if he doesn't look Benten up then she's going to pay him a visit.

It does seem like there's potential there. One's a human who acts like a Tengu and the other is a Tengu who acts like a human. They both don't seem to fit comfortably in either world, so they have more in common with each other.

Its quite an insult that Nidaime handed her though. He pushed her on the ground after putting a sheet down. Almost to suggest that he didn't want to get his carpet dirty with her body. Its like a double whammy there. The creators handled Benten's self-control admirably with her only reacting in a small "petty" way. Laughing

The last 2 episodes have been fantastic and I maybe enjoying this season a little more than I did the first by this number of episodes in.
