Is Taichi a typo for Asahi? At first I thought it meant Taiga (the landlord) but the rest of the review uses Fujiwara...
There is a good amount of redrawn art (and a few changed lines here and there) between the two Japanese editions. Most of the art changes are in closeups of faces and expressions, as her drawing style has evened out over the years. There are also fun little bonus comics (usually just a page or two) that she drew for the new editions. I do agree with the book's little ad, that the new edition makes it "even cuter!" but I also enjoy her quirky earlier art style in the original :D I haven't had time to do a real thorough comparison of the text changes, but I think they're mostly minor phrasing issues.

I read this volume. When I got to the point where a teenage girl moves into a rooming house with three random males and gets her father's permission, my suspension of disbelief broke. Her home life wasn't shown to be that dysfunctional. Unless volume 2 provides more explanation to support this I will not be following the series.

Yes, yes it is. Not sure how that slipped by me.

I definitely understand - retouched art or not, this is still very clearly one of her earlier works. I suspect we're supposed to see that the dysfunction is in her head and has to do with her own conflicted feelings. I figure another couple of volumes will tell me if I'm trying too hard to see this as orange's predecessor.

I can see a teenager creating so much drama at home that the family would be willing to find them a different place to live, though that sounds more US than Japanese. However, that is not how this is presented. This is the kind of "running away" where they go back when they get hungry. Regardless, I wouldn't have approved an all male rooming house.
I found Orange to be unreadable. I quit part way through. Fortunately as I am many years post college, I no longer have to read stuff I don't care for.

Or a reviewer.
But I definitely apply that delicious truth when I'm reading something for fun and I don't like it. One of the true joys of being out of school.

I couldn't possibly be a reviewer. In addition to the problem of having to read books I don't care for, I lack an analytic cast of mind. My reviews tend to be Yes/No with an occasional "That was really good".

Not too inspiring since orange was pretty unpolished.
