Justin hit the mark with Landmark Theaters. In the Boston area, anime fans know the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge is often the place to go. Since the start of the year, it's shown your name (subtitled, and for five weeks!) and Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic dubbed. Another possible anime landing site in the area is the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline; it showed Princess Mononoke for a time some years ago, though I'm not aware of anything more recent.

Here in the Columbus OH area, we have 3 theaters that usually show anime films: The Gateway, The Marcus, and Studio 35. Most people go to the Gateway since it is so close to the Ohio State University campus, but we've been getting several anime films a year, both new and old, at all three since Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods came out.

I'm fortunate in that my local theater ( i think a Regal?) will usually play Funimation's releases; i've seen DBZ: Resurrection F and Shin Godzilla there, and i know they've also shown the live action Attack on Titan films, plus the recent Black Butler film.
I've had the most fun with a small indie theater further in town; last summer they had a "Manga Summer" sponsored by a local comic book chain, university japan club, and others, and others, where all summer long they showed anime/manga/japanese films. It was really cool to be able to see Tekkonkinkreet, Paprika, and Akira on the big screen. I'm just sad i couldn't attend any more showings, as they had a lot of cool stuff playing. |

In New Jersey I usually go to the Reading Cinemas Manville. They'll often show anime and I've seen the Naruto/Boruto movies, One Piece movie, and Love Live movie there. When I used to work near Stamford CT though I would go to the Landmark theater cause just as Justin said they'd often show anime and I caught a few there like the Psycho Pass movie. One of my local AMCs did actually have multiple screenings of Your Name, but that's the only time I remember seeing anime there.

Columbus for me too. Gateway is by far the most reliable of those three for playing anime. It's where I saw both Your name and the SAO movie, and was the only theatre to do the SAO movie and played Your Name for about a month. And the events and item giveaway match-up for the SAO release too. It counted as an event and they gave away posters. Easton's AMC theatre (to also match the column) played Your Name too, but it only got a one-day release of five showings. |

Here in Northern Virginia, the theater that I've seen the most anime at is Angelika Film Center Mosaic, which is consistently among the couple dozen theaters that get even the smaller runs of anime films. It seems to be a chain, with the DC, Dallas and San Diego locations regularly appearing among those couple dozen as well. There is also an Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester that gets anime consistently, but that is about an hour away so I've never been.
The local Regal has gotten some of the bigger releases, namely SAO, Your Name, and Black Butler, the latter of which I saw there. On the one hand, they did change the theater and the seat I chose without notification, which caused me to go to the wrong theater and miss the first few minutes of the film, but on the other hand they did have the best seats I've sat in at a movie theater. Angelika will probably be my first choice, but I may consider going back, as hopefully the theater mix-up was just a fluke. I think the theater in the town center where I live got the Kabeneri films, but since I don't watch compilation I didn't go. They also had Shin Godzilla but that played before I moved to the area. |

If I was ever able to go see anime in theaters, I'd go to the Alamo Drafthouse.
I don't remember what theater I saw The Wind Rises in, since I wanted to see it for my birthday yet none of the local theaters were showing it...might've been a Cinemark? |

Sure; i live in Ann Arbor, MI; the theater that plays Funimation stuff is the local Rave Cinemas 16, and the small theater is State Street Theater by the U of M campus (currently being renovated). |

Yeah, Angelika is great. I've seen quite a few movies at the DC location, incl. Love Live, Expelled from Paradise, A Letter to Momo, Summer Wars, Garupan, and the recent Aqours 1st Live concert, and even better than the fact that they had them is that most of the shows I went to were sellouts or near-sellouts. A couple of years ago they did weekly screenings of GKids-distributed movies during the summer (not all of them anime, but that's when I caught Momo and Summer Wars), and this summer they're featuring a bunch of Ghibli movies, though I won't be able to go to any of those because they're screening on nights when I have to work. My local Bow Tie chain theater also occasionally picks up the bigger anime films - they were the ones who screened Your Name in my town, and they tend to get the Ghibli movies here when those are in their first runs. I'm sure they've also had others I didn't pay attention to. |

You Americans are lucky to have anime in your theaters at all. Something like that never happens in my country. Only 2 first Pokemon Movies got screenings in cinemas here TT.TT

Not a single anime have been show in the Theaters in my country. Not even Hayao Miyazaki movies. |

Some people in the US are lucky. Those of us who don't live in or near a big city don't get anymore anime than you do. Nada, zilch. A three hour drive to see a movie is not doable no matter how enticing it may be.

I feel sometimes they tend to rely on younger audiences too much. Being near Derby, England we have a decent 'nerd' scene but the anime showings at the three local cinemas (usually the Quad) are for one showing late on weekday nights which only those who live close to the centre could visit. Even one early weekend showing would be beneficial to those of us at work all week. Still, better than what Mendes has to deal with, which Euro country you hale from?

When I had gone to see Your Name, I asked one of the staff after if I could buy the promo poster after they finished airing it. Gave them my name and number, but they never called me back!! When I called them back, they said that most likely gave them to employees working there. GOD DAMN IT!!!!!
