While there's no explicit statement as to what sort of prohect it is, Cookie very appropriately pointed out, "If it takes a year to produce, it's probably an animated movie."

If it's not directed by Miyazaki or Takahata, then poop.

Suzuki said to Itoi Shigeato last year that Miyazaki is very interesting about Arakawa river in Tokyo and examines how people of the Edo-era lived in this river.

According to Inoue Naohisa's diary on January 19, Miyazaki did three storyboards for Ghibli museum and writing another story which is about a river when ships were used to transport goods.

In other news NTV aired an interview of Mr. Suzuki to promote his newly published book this morning.
In the interview, he announced that three projects are going on right now: one by Miyazaki, one by Takahata, and one based on a foreign book.
A NTV reporter said that Miyazaki's and Takahata's might be released together.

Ghibli announced on the production diary July 5 that we are working three films for museun and two short films.

Ghibli museum already announced these titles.

Gbili is a lot more than just the two directors - and they can't stay around forever, can they? I, for one, would actually like to see someone else come along, especially as with all due respect, Howl's Moving Castle was far from the strongest thing Miyazaki's done.

According to Nausicaa.net, there's a rumor going around that Miyazaki is considering using Ursula K. LeGuin's "EarthSea" series for his next project. Not sure how much founding the rumor has, though.

If it has dragons in it, then I can see it being true. Miyazaki and his thing for aerial action and all. That would be pretty wicked seeing studio ghibli animated dragons.

Um, Studio Ghibli has animated dragons before. Spirited Away, anyone?

I'm very aware of that, but it's just about a fact that all of ghibli's best stuff came from them. Not to mention the studio's founders and biggest moneymakers. Honestly, if they retired or died, the studio is as good as done.

Despite that, the Cat Returns and Ocean Waves were pretty good.

And no, Howl's wasnt very hot, that's true. But it was still better than a lot of other animated films.

I was under the impression that animated movies (of that quality) took approximately 3-4 years to make. If they're only on storyboarding, I'd guess it would be pretty short... unless storyboarding is a lot farther along in the process than I think it is.

Suzkui said
Ghibli was established to make Miyazaki and Takahata's film. Therefore, we close Ghibli if they get impossible to make a film.
Now, although we are successful, this success does not continue forever.
I always say "Master technique" to the Ghibli staff. If they have it, they can get a job in every other studio.

I used to think that too.... until i saw that "making of" feature on the Spirited Away second disc..

i found it very interesting all the processes and stress they go under..
