I started playing the Layton games in Japanese starting with Kamen/Mask, and I played the last game in both languages. One very, very unfortunate consequence of having too many language-specific puzzles I noticed is tha most of the replaced localized puzzled have to come up with a puzzle either based on the image that went with the original Japanese puzzle, or they have really simple images and get really vague. I played it in English because my friend bought it for me (not realizing I had it in Japanese or that I didn't have a U.S. 3DS, so I had to borrow one) and I almost stopped playing it because the localized puzzles were awfully boring and weird, and anything else, I was already conscious of the answer.

I can't speak for Layton x Ace Attorney or Miracle Mask, but at this point, I'm only going to play the series in Japanese.

I take it you know Japanese well enough for the game to be playable though. (Nintendo of America has had to replace a lot of puzzles right from the start, as I don't believe Level-5 actually did any sort of localization until recently. Not sure if the same people are still doing it ever since Layton expanded to mobile platforms.)

I've always had mixed feeling about the Layton games. On one hand, I like solving puzzles, but on the other hand, the story and characters always felt very...rote to me? I was playing through one of the 3ds games recently and I really wished there was a skip dialogue option. Everything felt so artificially quaint it was boring. Judging my this review, it doesn't seem like any of the problems I've had with the series have changed.

I'd like to play this, yes, but I'd rather have it on my 3DS than on my phone. So I guess I'll have to wait for it to be released in Europe. (Which, hopefully, won't be that much later, if at all.)

I am near-fluent, and Layton games don't use complex language. All puzzles use extremely concise language, with particles donated to make sure you know who is doing what, to whom, where, etc.
