Honey and Clover isn't Shojo it's Josei which is aim towards young woman.
As for the review really agree with it. For me a was the best anime of last season. The character Morita alone is worth watching love his character very unpredictable.  So people who haven't seen this series watch it!!!

This will be licensed; this will be released; and this will be the best US-released anime of 2006, if not the most underrated.

According to the publisher of the manga it's classified as shoujo, so I'm just going off official information. But I do admit, it's part of a growing trend toward this shoujo-josei gray area, where the stories are sophisticated enough for adult women but also appealing to older girls who have outgrown the "young shoujo" titles. |

Where did they say that? It's published in Young You, which is a josei magazine. |

I knew it was in Young You, but I was under the impression that the magazine operated as "older shoujo," and the Encyclopedia says "The manga won the Kodansha award for shoujo category in 2003," not to mention the TV series is marked as shoujo under genres in the Encyc entry. However I stand corrected, as the actual publisher itself is Shueisha, and the Kodansha awards don't have a josei category anyway. Should've done my research.

I don't usually like to comment about reviews, but I'd say this review hit the essence of this series very well. The last series I watched with this level of emotional impact was Koi Kaze, but that was on a different level altogether. Kudos to the script writer for doing an incredible job.

Lots of things in the encyclopedia are labelled as shounen or shoujo that aren't. They shouldn't even be considered genres, so I really don't understand why ANN keeps using those terms... they're just misleading and nothing more. |
