Apparently, he doesn't go to jail because none of the material depicted "the actual exploitation of real children." And since when was anime illegal in Canada?

...'anime' isn't - that article is just one of the worst-researched pieces of newswriting I've seen in a good two or three years. But it appears that Canadian law does differ from that of the US in this case, and buying or selling *any* pornography depicting underage subjects, regardless of whether it's photographs or drawings, is illegal in Canada.

Wow...that article is horrible. I just sent off a letter to the editor of the Edmonton Journal about how horrid that last part is, saying that anime is illegal in Canada when it most definitely is not.

The case itself is likewise horrible, though in a completely different way.

Poor guy. I don't support what he did in any way but to be placed on a "Sex Offenders" list just because he bought a bunch of drawings of young looking characters is ridiculous. What he reads in his spare time shouldn't be anyone's business.

And thanks to idiotic journalists, like the one who wrote the article, anime and manga will continue to be equaled with pornography and pedophilia. Thanks a bunch, morons.

I haven't done it yet, but anybody who has the time should write to the editor and set this straight. Maybe we could even draft one in this forum? This is just blatantly bad journalism, clearly the author did not even research the subject matter. Rolling Eyes

Here's the address for letters to the editor for the Edmonton Journal:

I wonder if living in child porn means you attend a lot of mass naked child events.

All Canada.com does is re-print news from various Canadian news sources. Some of their sources are mong the best newspapers in Canada. Others aren't so good. The gazette, their Montreal partner is a very respectable paper.

Actually, under certain circumstances, Child Porn is legal in Canada.

Too late!

I once drove though Kiddy Fiddler, Ohio.

ALSO!

I wonder how much longer it will be untill serious organizations pop up to try and stop the sale of anime here in america. (Think Jack Thompson only for anime.)
