They DID announce the 3rd season though. (Or a sequel to be more precise.) these movies are just something before that.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection (コードギアス 復活のルルーシュ Kōdo Giasu: Fukkatsu no Lelouch) is the upcoming third installment of the anime series, Code Geass directed by Gorō Taniguchi and produced by Sunrise Inc. The story takes place several years after Lelouch vi Britannia's "Zero Requiem" plan. [1]

Since the third and final compilation film comes out in May. I'm expecting the long awaited third season of the Code Geass to begin during the Fall 2018 anime season (maybe Summer 2018 if we're lucky).

I know some content can easily be removed, not even enough to tell the story without omitting some important information.

I've never heard anyone refer to the 00s as Sunrises golden age. What titles made up this golden age?

Additional info that multiple outlets keep forgetting to mention when reporting on these compilation films, or just aren't aware of, is that the series *already* got two compilation films several years ago. One for each season, released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan, not licensed by Bandai Entertainment at the time, nor subsequently by FUNimation.

So, for those who happen to find the idea of compilation films hilarious and unnecessary, outside of their sole purpose of simple advertising and easy money, you may now laugh and facepalm at Sunrise doubling down on the Code Geass compilation fun.

I have already addressed that before, especially in a couple of posts around here. Those two earlier compilation features were never shown in theaters, didn't really involve the main staff and had absolutely no new content. There wasn't much of a point in licensing them.

But now, considering it has been almost ten years since the end of Code Geass and that these new films are in fact theatrical projects, not direct to video, with different running times (three movies, not two) and actively involve both the director and writer in terms of the editing choices, re-recording all of the dialogue and adding completely new scenes (the latest trailer confirms there will be a few)...all of this suggests these movies will be more worthwhile and less redundant than what your observation indicates. No doubt the point is to make money, after all, but I think creating a digest version of the show in order to appeal to both new and existing fans isn't such a bad idea under the circumstances.

I hope they cut out a lot of the dumb high school hijinks. Code was always silly cheesy fun but the high school stuff detracted from the larger story.

My main point was simply that since articles like this tend to strive to briefly address each and every existing installment of a given title (an editorial decision I understand, but don't really agree with or find valuable), it seems an odd omission here to not include mention of the existing compilation installments, especially when the primary topic is *more* compilation installments.

For what it's worth, I'm one of those weirdos that enjoys compilations and never skips recap episodes. I've bothered to import plenty of the ones not licensed and released here (for obvious reasons), including badly-edited, no-new-content gems such as the Tenjho Tenge compilation. So I'm not unaware of the widely varying degrees to which these sorts of projects may or may not present an actual new experience to fans.

My sentiment expressed at the end of my previous post was not to indicate that I think this upcoming trilogy will lack value (I'm not the biggest Code Geass fan ever, but I'm certainly putting in a preorder as soon as they start showing up on Amazon Japan), but instead trying (poorly?) to joke about the fact that so many fans simply don't care much for the idea of compilation installments in any form.

I have my suspicions that these movies will include on how he is still alive after that ending. though whether or not it will be the same as the manga remains to be seen since like with akame ga kill, the manga's ending was definitely different from the anime.

It will be rather easy to just show that the driver at the end is lelouch.
