God. Not only did Harry Potter claim #1, it did double the business of the #2 bestseller.

Yep it did. The rankings are kind of weird for me. I didn't expect Harry Potter to outrun everything.

Harry Potter is pretty much the biggest tihng in the world right now, so there should be no shock at it doing so well. Coupled with the fact that this hasn't been a great couple of years for movies in the US (which, as can be seen, tend to have a fair shot of topping Japanese charts) Harry Potter will likely come to dominate their charts next year as well.

Edit: It also seems that if the numbers for both ACs were combined it would take the number 4 spot.

I guess we'll be seeing a Brad Bird/Miyazaki collaboration in the near future now. ^_-

For those who can't read Japanese, here's the rest of the list:

4. Spiderman 2
5. Resident Evil 2
6. SekaChu (aka Crying Out for Love, In the Center of the World)
7. Deep Blue
8. Ima Ai ni Yukimasu (aka Be With You)
9. I, Robot
10. Kat-Tun Live
11. Alien vs. Predator
12. FF7 Standard
13. National Treasure
14. War of the Worlds
15. FF7 Special
16. Mr. Children Tour 2004
17. Downtown (a popular variety show DVD series (I think?))
18. Phantom of the Opera
19. Ocean's 12
20. The Terminal

I'm actually more surprised by the dud that is Resident Evil 2 being that high on the list than HP at #1. But I guess if you wanna test your new home theater, RE2 is a better choice than some critically acclaimed indies movie. Wink

Am i the only one who is insanely amused by the fact that "The Incredibles" was changed to "Mr. Incredible" in Japan?

Hmm... With no plurals in Japanese, it would have come out as simply "Incredible". That could be the reason for the name change. However, the name "Mr. Incredible" is probably translated from "Incredible-San", and that could apply to the whole family.

There's a very good chance that I'm wrong, though.

I've seen ads for the Japanese version of The Incredibles before and it does say "Mr. Incredible" on it, not Incredible-san.

Years ago, I would have fantasized that the top movies would have all been anime based or featuring Godzilla or some other home-grown product. It's these types of things that show how alike we really are, regardless of the cultural differences. *cue the violins, please*

Resident Evil Apocalypse is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. While I'm fine with Japanese liking Western movies more than their own, sometimes it really seems that they have no idea.
