I guess I'll be the first. While I welcome DMP's effort to market 'harder' titles to more mature audiences, the name of line is likely to upset those diehard Japanophile's as Juné is pretty much the name of June Magazine, a traditional BL magazine in Japan.

Fr. Aestheticism.com

June
June was an early publication featuring male/male stories in the tanbi style. People used to refer to the category of male/male relationships targeted at the female audience as June, but since that was a trade name for a magazine, that meaning of the term has fallen into disuse. The category has evolved and changed so much and the types of stories so varied that the entire category is now called BL by the industry and most fans. In some places, including Comiket, original stories are still called 'sousaku (original) June'.

I think the name choice is very much out of context, I think DMP should at least make an attempt at finding an original name for their “hard” line, or at least cut the whole “Genet” etymology , no matter how many times I read it, it still does not change the fact that the reason why the word June has a resonance inside the BL community is not due to Jean Genet but to the “early publication featuring male/male stories in the tanbi style”. While I am happy to see DMP read about the origins of the word, I am sad to see they are naming their imprint after somebody else’s imprint, it just seems like an attempt to associate themselves with June and in my opinion a very unfortunate decisions. I may be one of the “diehard Japanophile” because I find it insulting that a licensor decides to claim the name of a yaoi pioneer for the sole purpose of better marketing…but I am not all that surprised now looking back on how this is not the first time DMP decides to delude people. (after all their other imprint called yaoi manga did not have all that much yaoi in it) Laughing

Oh burn!

Yeah, it disturbed more than a few of us when it was obvious things weren't going to get any more mature than Only the Ring Fingers Knows [and by mature I don't mean pornographic!] Surprised

I do see your point and that's what disturbed me-while I enjoy more mature titles being licensed I can't see why the name Juné is used without a mere mention of the original magazine that used the moniker for possibly the same reasons. While their intention may be benign it's bound to ruffle feathers.

It's like a company in Japan licensing American action comics and calling themselves 'Dark Pony'... Rolling Eyes

Actually it's like a company in Japan licensing American action comics and calling themselves 'DarkHorsé', without being associated with DarkHorse... Laughing
