Interesting. If this sells well enough, I wonder if this could be a way we'll see other short oldies that seem like they'll never make it over otherwise?

I can dream!

Seems more like a way to make sure it never sells well. I'd have considered getting it if I could have gotten it through Right Stuf, but now I'm not going to bother.

There's nothing wrong in attempting to cut out the middleman to increase profits. If this works, they might do it on other titles.

I doubt it works. Restricting the number of places your title is seen is a sure-fire way to make sure it doesn't sell. They'll get a few sales of those who REALLY want to see it.

BTW, most of us rather go through the "middleman" because it is cheaper than buying directly from the source. Razz

Source: Anime on DVD

Anime on DVD is reporting that Robert's Anime Corner Store reached an agreement with ADV to sell Prefectural Earth Defense Force at the RACS website:

Robert's Anime Corner Store wrote:
ADV created a minor controversy with retailers after announcing that the release of the Prefectural Earth Defense Force OAV will be available from ADV only and will not be offered to dealers. This came after several retailers had already started taking pre-orders for the title, and is a great example of why we don't always rush to be the first to post a new item for pre-order. I was very disappointed by this, but contacted ADV to see if they would allow us to carry the title as a 'pass through' item, meaning we will stock it and sell it to customers at cost ($12.98). ADV agreed, and I'm glad that we were able to make arrangements so that RACS customers will be able to obtain the title here.

The rest of RACS's statement can be read here.

Great! Now I can get it from RACS in 3-4 days instead of 4-6 weeks from ADV.

ADV are presenting this like they’re doing it for the fans, saying that selling it through their website was the only way to release it. While I may be wrong, it seems more likely that it’s an experiment to see if they can cut out the middle man and increase their profits by releasing titles exclusively through their website.

I'd rather have a choice of retailers rather than having to buy it from one site that offers bad service and high shipping costs. In order to stop more ADV website exclusive releases I suggest anyone who wants it buys it from Robert’s Anime Corner Store.

It's good to see we have an alternative to buying from ADV.. Anime Corner Store are a great retailer. Unlike ADV, there customer service is fantastic. Their shipping is decent too.

Anime Corner Store - Highly Recommended to All

ADV don't ship outside of the US, so RACS gives me the option of purchasing the series.

The only problem is their overseas service is DHL or the equivalent, so the cost per item is quite high.

Not if you buy more than 1 item plus $9 is no more than i've seen sellers charge on Ebay.

Although unlikely theres always hope more retailers will be able to stock this title, we will have to see as we get closer to the release date in April.
