This is a masterpiece, and the only thing mind-numbing about it is the review. Very Happy

Are you just trolling? This is the second or third time I've seen you mindlessly attack our reviewers with no specific criticism.

Personally, I found this show incredibly difficuly to swallow. A great majority of the jokes are based on Japanese wordplay, so if you don't speak the language 90% of the show falls flat right from the get-go. I think the major failure here was the dub, not so much because of the acting, but the script. If there was ever a show that needed a Foster-style rewrite, this is it. Comedy is simply not comedy when I have to break out liner notes or read some subtitle to get the joke. In my opinion, Geneon should be more careful in what shows they acquire. The last year or so their lineup has generally been a stinker.

And another cute anime gets a good review. Now who said ANN was biased against cute anime?

That's not my definition of "good". I call it "slightly above average" with "good" being all B's or higher, but I digress.

True some of the jokes are a little erudite and probably requires a second viewing, but it's quite amusing nonetheless.

The show got an "Overall score" of B for the sub.

B = good.

In otherwords, the score alone says "overall: good".

Carlo thought the show was good, not "slightely above averade."

I suspect we need to re-evaluate the design of our reviews, too many people are averaging in the oterh scores and the overall score, not realising that the overall score takes the other scores into account.

Please explain what was wrong with the review. We can't improve the reviews if you don't tell us what is wrong with them.

Is the review bad because the reviewer failed to explain his critiques in a clear and concise manner?

Is the review bad because the reviewer failed to write a review that could be helpful to people with differing opinions than his own? (Ie: someone who wouldn't like the show, if they read his mostly positive review, would they be able to walk away and say "this show probably isn't for me" ?)

Is the review bad because you disagree with the reviewer's opinion? And if so, please explain where the logic behind his opinion faulters.

Is the review bad because it fails to differentiate between "good" and "entertaining / likeable?" (a good reviewer should be able to give a good review to a show he dislikes, and a bad review to a show he likes).

Is the review bad because it fails to take into consideration the crowd that the anime was created for? Although we will never pander reviews by looking at them entirely from the point of view of a single target demographic, it is our intention to write reviews that can be of use to people in that target demographic. As stated above, even if the opinions of the average people in that target demo differ from the reviewers, they should be able to come to their own, differing conclusions about the show from his review ("the reviewer gave this show a bad review, but his description of it makes me think I'll like it").

Is the review merely badly writen, are there grammar and constuction issues ?

Is it too short ?

PLEASE ellaborate.

We will change our reviews if those who don't like them provide clear, logical explanations as to what is wrong with them.

(By the way, the show's Median rating in the encyclopedia is "good", based on 135 votes. So it seems that most the people who voted on it agree with the reviewer. Although some people thought it was a masterpiece, and a few more people thought it was weak. No one though it was "bad" or worse).

This review of Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar is also fairly positive, and it's completely honest about who will like the series and who will not. (I've mentioned this review elsewhere, but it's more relevant here--I wanted to link to it on the discussion of the UFO UltraMaiden DVD review, but it was teh lockz0rs.) I liked Bottle Fairy well enough, but I certainly can't put it in the "Masterpiece" category. And maybe I'm weird (ok, probably not "maybe"), but I don't mind "explained humor" from AD-Vid Notes, liner notes, fansub subtitle notes, or wherever; if it expands my knowledge of Japanese or about the world in general, I appreciate it. However, mine is a minority opinion, and Examinee 623 makes a good point about this particular drawback of Bottle Fairy.

Imho, there's no real need to expend time defending reviews to the mindless rabble; chances are, no matter what's done with the system, people will still troll with baseless criticism. I think most rational people will see this review as honest and informative about the merits and the flaws, and I didn't see any language errors like its/it's confusion.

I think the problem could be solved by a single well placed enter hit.

Overall (dub)
Overall (sub)

Story
Art
etc

I'm in that minority too; I really enjoy these types of puns and jokes myself. Not just because it requires me to understand more about Japan; But just learning about a different culture in general. Having my hobbie tie-into that culture is just a plus Smile

Cute anime still wins for me. I'll be trying to snap up all DVD's when it's out.

Fangirls rejoice. Doki Doki High School also got a good review too. There's nothing wrong with cute series, as long as it's done in a creative way.
