Wow, a Kimba review that doesn't mention the whole "Lion King" fiasco....color me impressed.
Kimba's a show I've never had the opportunity to check out, but being a classic anime fan, after this review I'm definitely looking forward to it. |

Haha, I'm impressed too. I wish they would show this on tv.
Not to open up a can of worms, but does Kimba have any Hamlet themes or was that exclusive to Disney? |

Since the review gave a positive review of the dub, are there two dub versions of Kimba, by any chance? Because a while back I saw a dub of Kimba on one of those religious networks and I couldn't stand to watch it. The VAs felt more like they were reading a script to a group of kindergardeners rather than actually voice acting, the VAs totally didn't match the lip movements at all, and there was this one character (I think he was a leopard or something) that sounded way too much like Bullwinkle for me to take seriously, so either we have different tastes in dubs or there must be two different dub versions. And I'm sorry, but no matter how much of a classic Kimba is, I just can't accept the idea of a vegeterion lion. It's just way too far-fetched even for a cheesy '70s children's anime, though it makes me wonder what PETA would think if they ever saw this show. I still would like to see Jungle Emperor Leo one day, if only they would license a subtitled version.

That was a sequal series that was relesed in Japan a year or two after Kimba's original Japanese relese, and was shown in America for the first time in the 1980's and was called Leo the Lion http://www.kimbawlion.com/LeoTheLion.htm.

Actuallly there are so called vegetarian lions.
Thing is they eat eggs which are as you embroys and milk. Both products come from animals so it's not really vegetarinism. Bah cannot spell. Lions and other cats have to eat or drink things rich in a taurine. If they don't get taurine their immune system suffers, they often go blind, they have numerous health problems. Then suffer and die. Uncooked meat has the most taurine. Milk has some so kittens get it that way. Eggs have quite a bit. Cat food companies add taurine to their cat food. You can do vegetarian cats but you have to supply them the artifical stuff. Now Leo the Lion was based on a real lion that avoided meat yet ate eggs and milk. Creationists as well as some other weird religious group that traces back to Himmler of Nazi Germany parade the Leo the lion tale as evidence that the animals in the garden of eden didn't eat other so there was no death or birth. Of course they neglect to mention that Leo was constantly sick and died very compared to other lions raised in captivity. Even wild lions often live older then Leo did. Basically Leo was suffering from nutrional deficiancy. Any less and he would have gone blind. Do a search. |

Yes, the series was re-dubbed in 1993. You might have seen this version on I-Life, which calls itself an "inspirational lifestyles" network. No, I'm not sure what that means, either. I-Life shows Kimba at 6:30 AM on Mondays and Wednesdays. And it is Kimba, not the sequel, Leo the Lion. This 1993 dub also replaced the music from the original '65 version, including the classic opening theme. |
