I don't see the word Licensed here? Are they going DramaQueen LLC's route a la Rush [ http://dqrush.com ] and showcase OEL/BL or are they just going to acquire harder BL from companies like Libre or Aqua?

Yaoi- the term used to describe manga or anime with homo-erotic themes involving men. (ANN Lexicon) Hardcore- Extremely graphic or explicit (dictionary.reference.com) 0_o Of course, DMP was very persistant in labeling what most fans considered shonen-ai "yaoi" so this may mean they are starting to seperate the PG-PG13 fluff and the pr0n, which would be a good idea considering their website (http://www.yaoi-manga.com/) seems to be geared towards girls around fourteen. |

In Japan there are varying degrees of BL. There is BL geared for the under 16 group [B-Boy mag for example], and there is BL published for the +18 demographic [B-Boy Gold mag for example]. So far, DMP's June line has licensed a huge amount of BL that is in Japan marketed to the under 16 group. It's romance, plot driven, with very little in terms of actual 'explicitness' other than a kiss, or some romance. Be Beautiful and Dramaqueen LLC, on the other hand, has specialized in licensing titles that are marketed to the over 18 audience in Japan. Get the difference now? What I find hilarious about all of this is...how many more IMPRINTS do we need from one company? Does DMP really need to release the hard stuff? I think they're doing just fine with what they have, I don't see why all of a sudden one licensor needs to be all things to all 'Yaoi' readers. -Tina |

I wish there was more fluffy high-school romance BL over here. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems that the number of pornographic series practically eclipse the non-porn ones.

I think the reason we're seeing all these new imprints that just cover Yaoi is because manga companies are smelling money to be made on the yaoi manga but they also realize that in some areas of the U.S. they do not want the manga to be directly connected to their other manga titles. Hmm, let me try and re-phrase this better. The manga companies know that if Soccer Mom in Texas get ticked off at the over 18 manga they might see for sale at a Barnes and Noble, they might start a boycott or worse (keep in mind consenting hetrosexual adults over the age of 18 have actually done jail time for just buying sex toys in some areas of Texas) of the manga line in question. So to protect themselves and their non-over-18 yaoi mangas they are making up new imprints to throw off any potential problems that might pop up like this. At least IMO - your milage may vary and I could be way off track here (or may be missing something else that also makes making new imprints a good idea for them). |

I'm sure you know I have very little knowlege in this field, but do you think this could come back and have a negative effect on them? To my knowege yaoi represents a large portion of DMP's sales, and a year or so ago it seemed like a pretty great idea for every company to jump into a sub-genre with an extremely loyal, already established fanbase with a good rate of mainstreme success. Your making it sound like they're overextending themselves by licencing a genre that may have a limited fanbase and have little hope of appearing in bookstores, which very well could be possible. I know very little about how word-of-mouth affects sales within the community, so could ya shed some light on the subject? Now all I want is a yuri line. Unfortunatally, chances are slim and even one was established I doubt it would have anything but flowery, "I love you sempai!" shojo titles, rather than josei ones (which is what I've been reading often of late). |

I am also a little exasperated by all the DMP imprints. First they have a yaoi line, then they change it to the "june" line, and now they add a whole other company for more yaoi? It makes my head spin.
However, DMP is very conservative with its age ratings for the june line, and rates too many of its titles "mature" when they don't really deserve the rating. If it could be guaranteed that all the titles in the 801 imprint are hardcore, than that would cut a lot of the guesswork out of my purchases and make me one happy yaoi fangirl indeed ^ ^ Also, now that I think of it, this might be DMP's way of holding onto their fanbase. Many of their readers who start out with the "soft" DMP titles will probably want to move onto hardcore titles later on. DMP doesn't want to have those readers eventually choose Dramaqueen, Kitty Media, etc. over their own line, so they're roping them in while they have the chance, methinks. |

I think there just doing it to make it easyer to keep the porn seperate from there other lines.
ala ADV back when they released hentai it was under there soft cell label. |

I still find it funny that they keep referring to this stuff as "yaoi" and go as far as to use the net slang "801". I realize that "Boy's Love" would sound a bit iffy over there, but still... Which mangaka was it again who got offended when someone called their work "yaoi"?

But come on lets be honest in the west "Yaoi" like it or not has become the catch all term for BL works kinda like otaku morphing into simply anime fan. take this with a grain of salt since it came from wikipedia without a foot note
