Expect more exclusive extended clips (like over 1 minute) from the movie added to the site in the next two weeks. I'm heading to the theater that's playing Fullmetal in Des Moines tomorrow night to catch the movie with a friend of mine. Heck, he lives two hours away from me and he jumped at the chance to drive down and see the movie.
I can't wait. |

Why is the movie not playing in Chicago? This is one of the biggest markets in the country. It baffles me that that it isn't playing in this city, even on the severly-limited release this film is getting.

Maybe because they couldn't strike a deal with a theatre in that area? The movie is really only playing in one chain of theatres, and I don't think that they had any theatres in that area. We people here in the Northeast got lucky that they showed it at the ImaginAsian in NY. Oh, and Lance, I have to say you guys did a beautiful job with this movie. I saw it fansubbed originally along with the series before I knew they were licensed (don't worry, I plan on buying the box set whenever you guys release one. How could I not? You guys at Funimation did such a wonderful job with it!), and the dubbing was superb. Although Ed's voice is considerably different (though in a good way, because it made him sound MUCH more manly), it still fits him perfectly. The only thing I didn't like was how not everyone was able to receive a free poster. I think you guys should've supplied the theatre with enough posters for everyone, because I am PISSED that I wasn't able to win one. And what was the deal with them having a DBZ movie 12 poster as a prize?! Anyway, congratulations on doing a superb job with this project. It was at a good time, too, because had I gotten there any later, I would've missed the beginning of the movie. Thank you for such a memorable, pleasurable experience!

What a nice midnight surprise for me- great to see it up and about
. I'm just wondering, and I'll just ask for the heck of it- are those little interviews witch the cast, etc. on the site exclusive to the site, or perhaps a taste of what's to come on the limited edition dvd? heheh....
I know I'm getting this movie no matter what...absolutely look forward to it! It is just that...I'm torn between formats. What are the things included with the special edition dvd that are NOT included with the regular edition? Because of yet, another $50 item (other item is LOZ: TP preorder) doesn't fit my extremely finite budget.

Unlike the unwashed masses [/superiority complex], I was never a fan of the FMA dub, but I have to say, when I watched it at Otakon, I was impressed by how far the voices had come.
There's certainly a marked improvement in Vic Mignogna's performance of Ed. I felt that during the series he gave Edward bratty, whiney voice which didn't suit him quite as well as the cynical, but remorseful tone that Romi Paku brought to him. But I noticed a subtle change that made his Ed in the movie more believable than in the series. I'll certainly be buying the DVD, but I wish I could see it in a local movie theater. Alas, it's not playing anywhere near where I live. "Open nationwide" my ass. |

I am really confused by this series, Funimation does a lot in terms of giving the fans lots of extras. However there something that is bother me about this title, first off how come there is only one version of the movie for purchase in the Z-store? As we know there are two different versions (Well 4 techically speaking) the regular and special edition, so what gives? Why only one version to purchase at the site. And also why isn't there any pics on the lenticular release from Waldenbook store, this movies has been a nightmare since it was announced.
I kind of just want it to be release and to be done with it, however I still love the series and the movie....but there been way too many issues with the movie being released in certain theaters and the whole special edition deal. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

You know, the theaters don't really bug me THAT much. I'm sure they're releasing it as much as they can, but it's a VERY niche title. Of course it's not going to be released everywhere! I was lucky that even Howl's Moving Castle came to my city, and that was backed by DISNEY.

Fullmetal Alchemist is relatively less niche than most anime titles, due to its airing on CN/AS and YTV, but, without giving my personal opinion of the film itself, the big problem with the Fullmetal Alchemist movie (which I have seen, in an anime club setting) from a casual viewer standpoint is that it assumes that the viewer is already extremely well acquainted with all the intricacies, mythology, and arcana of the TV series, because there's absolutely no exposition of what came before and, as such, the film wouldn't make a lick of sense to anyone, even anime fans, who hasn't already seen and absorbed the full story of the series. This is unlike, say, a Dragonball Z film, where, even if you don't know the characters or the sagas, all you really need to know to watch one of the standalone movies is that it's something about musclebound alien wrestler-types who like to stand around in mid air and shoot beams at each other in order to get the Dragonball Macguffins (not that the "something" you'd get from watching the films would likely be anything too substantial, but, unlike the FMA movie, the DBZ movies are relatively uncomplicated).
So, as such, the audience for this particular film would only be the pre-existing FMA fanbase, which is a major reason why FUNi is having trouble getting even a single theatre interested in scheduling even just one or two screenings in a lot of markets. |

That's an awesome trailer for the film but there's one thing that confuses me about Funi's site. It says on the site that the FMA movie is being released on DVD on September 12th, but Rightstuf.com lists it as being September 26th. Which one is the correct date?

What I want to know is when is it going to be aired on AS? I've read that it won't grace the TV screen till 6 months after it's released, though this was on the ASMB.

Hey Lance after meeting you at Otakon 2006's showing of the FMA movie you said that Philadelphia, PA was getting the movie, Whay happened? Why didn't we get it.
