A new manga, Muchuujin, by Ultraman creator Eiji Tsuburaya, began serialisation in the September 19 issue of Weekly Manga Sunday, which went on sale September 5th.

Now I'm a little confused, seeing that he died in the 70s? Did some of his work just stay hidden for 30 years? LOL, Ultraman use to be my favorite. Really look forward to seeing the Muchuujin Project (no pun intended, well maybe a little)

Sorry, my mistake:
(It appears that Muchuujin is actually a biography of Tsuburaya himself.)

From Weekly Manga Sunday's site:

Quote:

Muchuujin - the man who created Gozilla, Eiji Tsuburaya (Takeshi Kouno/Morikazu Ichikawa)
Eiji Tsuburaya... the name that will make everyone's chest burned after hearing that name. Using the "special effect," the overwhelming photographic technique of the time, we present you the forever hero of "Gozilla" and "Ultraman." The two masters, Morikazu Ichikawa and Takashi Kouno will poetically draw the special effect of the god's life.

I'm not too sure, but the photographic technique is probably the manga technique where photograph (or photomontage*) is used, the photograph is then photocopied (sometimes at a much lighter grey scale so it looks less photographic looking). Using that photocopy, the line work and inking is then either done directly onto it, or it gets traced to another piece of paper for inking and screentones. (I just recalled there's such a technique from very old manga teaching books. I'm not sure if that's the one they're refering to. ) This technique is meant to be used on anything at the background and rarelyif not ever used on the characters themselves (but it may be different at those times. It'd been years since I read ultraman and I really can't recall at all.)

*the technique to cut and paste together different photographs and then rephotograph the cut and paste so it looks like it's actual photograph without altering (heh, the day before adobe photoshop.. they had it harsh... :p )
