Agreed! I need to get a region free DVD player too, so that I can play them.

Edit: Or region 3, whatever is legal and would play them Anime smile
Is it just me, or is there no way to buy from their site?
Edit #2: Found the link in their site to a store with the DVDs! http://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=531&vpd001=58762

This is excellent news. I've heard nothing from great things about Monster, ranging from the people at the panels at MangaNEXT to just people posting here on the forums. I'm planning on buying the manga, but I've planned on watching the anime for a while, but never really wanted to download the fansubs. Now I can just buy the DVDs and play them on my brother's laptop, which has software that allows him to play any region of DVD. Very Happy

Wow, this awesome.
I think VLC player would be able to play region 3 DVDs. I was able to watch a region 2 DVD with it before.

This is probably a stupid question, but... isnt that the same as pirated bootlegs?

Not at all, as these have been licensed, so the original creators are getting paid.

Very excellent news, I've been waiting on a legal english sub of Monster for awhile now. Maybe we'll see a US release someday? FYI for those of you thinking of importing, your current dvd player can sometimes be made region free totally legally by simply entering the right manufacturer's code -- check out this site for details:

Man, I'm surprised the Japanese licensor would take such a big loss on that show. I could understand Buena Vista of Japan selling Ghibli movies cheap in R3, but that's because they've already made most of their money theatrically.

"no north american license"

- how could this series still not be picked up?
oh yea, because in north america anime is still marketed only to kids. Crying or Very sad

All the baited breath over this title has my interest up. I'm not the kind of guy who needs everything ASAP, but if no R1 release ever comes out I just might have to get the import version myself.

If you live in America, yes it can be done easily, but it certainly can NOT be done legally. America has some of the most anti-consumer laws of any first-world nation and yet most Americans are apparently completely obvious to this fact.

jigoku: John at Ask John believes that New Line could also have the anime rights, besides the movie rights, but I don't buy it. They don't have the experience to market anime, and I doubt they'd want to screw it up the way their sister TW affiliate at CMX has mismanaged their entry into the manga market.

Heh, I probably should have written "without voiding your warranty" instead of "totally legally." My bad. Wink

Hmmm... I'm kinda wondering that, when we do get a US release, will it be in sets too?

As for this... damn, I'm really tempted... but... I'll hold on a little while longer...

Like, a year... but, at least I know I can get a legit release (with English subs), so that just eases my mind. A lot.
