Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for a Feb 6, 2007 release date for the DVD followed by a Feb 13, 2007 release date for the third paperback volume.

Personally, I think the synopsis absolutely reeks of improbability, but what do I know? Maybe seemingly worthless otaku outcasts really can re-invent themselves with the help of their internet chums and somehow manage to find true love in the real world. Apparently all they need are millions of naïve girls and easily subdued perverts to help them create artificial circumstances under which can appear helpful.

My advice: Skip this improbable take on a supposedly true story and watch Taxi Driver instead. You'll still get to see what happens when an outcast tries to hook up with someone far outside of his own league, but without all the rose-colored nonsense tacked on. You'll even get to see him (eventually) save a girl from a pervert, but again, without all happy-go-lucky aftermath. Why waste time on silly fairytales when you can watch a true classic instead?

I like the story, but I enjoyed the tv drama much more than the movie. I don't find Yamada Takayuki or whatever his name is convincing as an otaku....in certain lights, he was prettier than Hermes. The drama was goofier and made me laugh more. But I like the whole Densha Otoko brand name so I just might buy the movie anyways if the price is right.
