So who are going to be the English voice actors?

PLEASE let it be the same cast as the first season!

Yes, I hope the cast is the same too. It'd be too strange to have a different cast.

I've said this before, but I am afraid this will get the same treatment ADV gave Comic Party Revolution, which in and of itself was a major dissapointment. Unfortunately CPR didn't live up to the first series, and the new dub cast after such a great performance from the cast in the first series only amplified the mediocrity of the new series, in my opinion. ADV surprised me in the past with YUA the Movie (and the mini specials) as well as Nurse Witch Komugi, but recent history doesn't give me much hope.

I kind of stopped caring so much about the English dubbing of Ah My Goddess! when they had to use a different voice-acting cast than the AMG OVA series from back in the day. Scott Simpson and Juliet Cesario sold me on Belldandy and Keichi. They supporting cast was extremely good too. Though the TV English Dub cast is very talented, I feel they lack the chemistry that just dripped from the work on the original OVAs. Of course, trying to get VAs for Belldandy and Keichi that can compete with a young married couple for chemistry is futile, so you can't hold it against them. I just switched to subtitles.

Meanwhile, on the Subtitles side of everything, the Japanese cast for the OVA and the TV series are almost entirely hold-overs - especially the main cast. They were already good the first time and I don't get any disconnect going from one to the other.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think snl67 is right on this one. If they were using the season one cast, they likely would've made a big hullabaloo about this already. So expect something as woefully craptastic as the Comic Party Revolution dub coming our way for AMG! season 2.

I don't know if i'd call the english dub of something that hasn't come out yet
craptastic,ADV has some good VA's.AMG season 1's english cast did a good
job,so i hope ADV can put a good cast too.

This just sucks then! This is what... the 5th dub for the franchise?

1. OVA
2. Movie
3. Mini-Specials
4. TV Season 1
5. TV Season 2

What the hell does it take to have some consistency around here? Do Region 1 companies even care about what the fans want anymore? It all goes to the highest bidder anyways.

Well, it is a business regardless of the artistic side. The studio that produces it could have just as easily accepted the offer of the those that had it before so the licensors aren't necessarily entirely to blame. I think the companies do care, well most of them, but sadly that really only goes far and it is the world of business and if they forget that aspect too they won't last long enough too care anyways.

I've never heard any of Comic Party's TRSI dub, but Comic Party Revolution might very well have been the worst ADV dub I've ever heard. I only watched the first episode on one of their Newtype preview discs but man was it bad. I feel for you Ah! My Goddess fans.

Forgive me for doing a happy dance over more Valkyrie coming out. This show totally appeals to my warped sense of humor and catgirls equal automatic cool to me.

Watching the antics of Kazuto, Valkyrie, Akina, Hydra, and Ms. Sanada really puts a smile on my face.

My only complaint is ADV not putting out an art box. Evil or Very Mad

Well, fans are always talking about how much they hate dubs and only watch anime subbed so maybe the companies just don't think anyone cares. Rolling Eyes

Actually, it's probably just that they prefer using their own people rather than outsource the work. Could be a matter of logistics or it could just be that using an outside company to dub something costs more. It might also have to do with union status of actors but I'm only speculating.

That's nice everyone is so worried over voice actors, how about story and plot? Are we fans going to still be totally in love with Belldandy after this? Will we get tired of Urd/Skuld battles, as K1 won't kiss Belldandy?

I have marked this date down.

It's definitely a "wait and see" scenario, but having talked to ADV reps (and being a HUGE fan of AMG) the party line atm is they are going to try and cleave as close to the Season 1 release as possible. I watch the sub rather than the dub, so a change in voices doesn't REALLY bother me, but I expect they'll at least make an effort (altho if it is too difficult they'll probably scrap it) to get the Season 1 VAs. I was told they're going as far as possible trying to make the release look similar to the Season 1 release (packaging and such) because they've already heard from fans and are aware that people will give them hell if the variance between Season 1 & 2 is too large. (people have already noted that they want to put their season 2 next to their season 1 and NOT have them look completely out of place with each other)

But outside of all that, WTF is the DEAL with AMG anyway? As already noted, every anime release is from a different company, and the manga has come out in at least 3 different formats as well. Is it a model of hardcore fandom buying power and thus gets ridiculously erratic treatment because fans will still buy it, or what?

I believe it is a sign of the times. In the past, many series would stick to one licensor, but nowadays that isn't the case. Whether it is some companies becoming more aggressive or shows getting too pricey for the smaller ones, or a combination of the two, it is no longer taboo for a franchise like OMG/AMG to pass from company to company.

Considering things like Comic Party, Kenshin with MB, "Samurai X" with ADV, Tenchi starting with Pioneer then going FUNi, yeah, I'm not as curious about that as all the ridiculous shifts with AMG. The company shifts annoy me, but they're not as bad as having a new cast for each one and WORSE (IMO) the manga changing formats several times already and that one hasn't changed publishers.

Things like this (and other things) have me waiting till a series has run it's course before I want to buy it. I'm not looking for "thinpaks" or even whining about a "good deal", all I want is to know the whole thing will be consistent from start to finish so I don't need to keep changing out early volumes.

(I HATED the original AnimEigo packaging for the OMG! DVDs, when I FINALLY broke down and bought them, less than a week later they repackaged them, altho, to AnimEigo's credit, they offered a discount if you traded in the originals, I didn't DO that of course, and just kept both, but it's the principle of the thing, especially considering how crazy the manga release has been)
