These last few disks of My-Hime have improved my views of this show. I started watching this about the same time I started the series Yumeria as well, and neither distinguished itself to me much. These last few disks however have shown a more serious side that has drawn me in and has me waiting for the last disk.
I don't mind watching shows that are somewhat formulatic and laden with fan-service, which My-Hime is, however, it is ones with more that I remember as more than anime filler. This is turning out to be just such a show. I have seen this subbed, and the sub sounds great to me, not the same problems as with the dub in this volumn. |

Can't justifiably disagree with Karl on the dub. Although there are a few solid performances (Carol Ann Day's rendition of Mai continues to be one of my favorite female performances of the past year), they are, unfortunately, more than outweighed by the inadequate ones. It's not so bad a dub that it's intolerable (like, say, Fantastic Childredn or Green Green), but definitely a subpart effort overall.
The storytelling itself was fantastic. I especially liked the way Shizuru spoiler[became completely unhinged in her obsession with Natsuki] and how Haruka stood up to her despite the worst of circumstances. And I must agree, this is one of the better series when it comes to making use of facial expressions. Count me among those eagerly awaiting the final volume. (Now only 5 weeks away!) |

With the exception of the omakes, I always thought My-HiME contained surprisingly little fanservice. Considering the kind of series it is anyway.
I'm still angry at Bandai for stretching out My-HiME to 7 volumes. 26-episode series should not be more than 6 volumes long. At least they learned their lesson & are making My-Otome 6 volumes. |

Though they could make it seven for Otome if the last disc was the OVAs and I don't think anyone could complain about that. It's not like Bandai is the only one still going that route. ADV was still doing 7 volume series as late as last year (see Godannar) though I'm not aware of any current titles going that long.

I too was surprised that Bandai released this on 7 volumes since they have a tradition of being very good with their disc per episode count. I'm used to Geneon and ADV milking it for all it's worth with Stellvia on 8 discs and many 12 episode series on 4 discs. ADV has however gotten better this past year with Jinki and Daikon being 3 disc sets. In all fairness there is also the fact that Bandai is charging $25 MSRP which is around $17 if you preorder it online so the long wait between 6 and 7 is definitely more of a factor than the price.
My favorite scene from the 6th volume was also the Shizuru incident. That really surprised me. I'm also glad that we see Midori in action. Does anyone else think that the very young sounding Tamura is a strange (oddly I like it) choice for her voice? I keep thinking of Ichigo (Onegai) when she talks. I've really enjoyed the second arc of this series more than the light hearted first half. Kajiura's OST works really well for this series. Despite my criticism about her lack of variety in her music it seems that she always does the OST for shows that fit her style. |

It was a pain waiting for this release. God, I loved how it only took spoiler[Shizuru] one word to defeat spoiler[Nao], it seemed that she, Mai and Mikoto are over-powered for HiME looking at the size of their children -or should I say 'child', the JP version didn't use the plural form when referring to them- and the damage they could do. I also loved Shizuru's accented voice in the JP version, I think her seiyuu is turning into one of my favorites.
This volume is the best so far and marked as one of the best anime experiences that I had in a while. Can't wait to view the conclusion in volume 7 though I'm disappointed that Bandai chose Mai, Mikoto and Natsuki for the third time to be on the cover; there was a prettier art of Yukino and Haruka and another of Nao and Shiho on the JP release that I would have preferred to have on my collection

I have really enjoyed this series a great deal (it may end up in my to 10 faves depending on how the finale plays out), & volume 6 has been my favourite so far, as it ramped up the drama & the angst, especially for my two favourite characters in the series, Natsuki & her ever-loving Shizuru.
I am kinda hacked off that the R1 release is in 7 volumes as Beez's R2 release for the series in Europe is only planned for 6 DVDs. I couldn't wait for Beez's very slow release schedule (& the fact that their authoring process is riddled with even more bugs than Bandai's R1 release), so I bought the R1 release instead. Only a month to wait now for the conclusion.
