All of the answers make sense except for Rei Ayanami. I can't imagine a worse person to be friends with. She'd be such a downer all the time, would never have fun when we went out, and would make a terrible conversationalist. That must have been a guy's pick, since I can't imagine any female wanting to go out on the town and be girls with Rei.

What about that scene where Shinji sees Rei talking freely and smiling with Gendo Ikari? Did Shinji just imagine the whole thing? |

Would Lupin III really be such a good friend? He'd probably get you involved with stealing things, and unless you're as talented at getting out of things as the rest of his crew, you'll be arrested.
Then again, he'd probably break you out of prison. As long as you don't run off with Fujiko. |

Must of been, I mean who wouldn't want a 'friend' that doesn't ever go against your will  . I actually agree with Lupin because he does seems like someone you would have such a good time with. Not only that your guarantee to find adventure or at least find a dame in distress.

Maybe you didn't know, but there's a huge, huge following for Ayanami Rei, mostly among the male fanbase. In other words, a lot of guys think she's really hot. My guess is that was the reasoning behind that choice. If I had a dime for every time I've read, "She is cute, that is why she is called Rei-chan." |

Note that she was talking to a man whose personality is almost a carbon copy of hers in that shot. Plus it's established later that her relationship with Gendo is complex and creepy anyway. Have you ever seen her act amiably towards any of her female classmates, ever?
Of course I know that. It doesn't change the fact that she'd make a terrible person to try to have fun with. Er... as a friend. I KNOW why guys'd like her.

Actually that is funny about Rei. I guess they'll love it even more in the new movies cause she'll be talking more.
 Or they'll hate it. Rei isn't Rei if she isn't being responsive.

That's why he'd be a great friend! Adventure, excitement, tons of money after a successful heist to go do crazy stuff with...can't think of a better guy to hang out with. And you get to be with Jigen as a bonus. And taunt Zenigata. Ah, that'd be the life. |

I'm torn between Doraemon and Son Goku as a choice for most wanted friend. But I wonder if anybody in that survey could vote for Shin-Chan? He'd be a much cooler friend than Rei Ayanami.
