I was actually looking forward to this, as I'm a sucker for anything hard-boiled, but looks like I'll be skipping it. Too bad.

The description of it seemed nice, while then we get the review which makes it seem it wasn't all we could hope for. Would it truly be worth our money, for sure.

I need to read it again to finalize my opinion. My first impression however = everything in this review. I guess I was expecting more of a detective story and all I got was a bumbling oaf running into a new monster every 10 pages...

I was really looking forward to this, but the final product is just a muddled mess. The blending of horror and pulp genres worked much better about ten years ago when HBO did their "Cast A Deadly Spell" movie with Fred Ward. I had hoped this series would be able to capture that, but it's just a pale imitation.
