Isn't this the highest a manga has ever made it on the best sellers list? I'm really looking forward to five years in the future to seeing manga dominating the list.

Well, to be philosophical about the entire thing, good things don't last forever and new books come out every week.

But still: FRUITS BASKET WAS #15!!!! That is still cause for bragging rights.

Yes originally Naruto was the record holder but now Fruit Basket holds that title. I am really surprised by Fruit Basket success, perhaps I should check it out.

I really wonder about that, I mean are we just having great manga out now that lots of people are buying or is this a statement that the manga market is growing? It's kind of like how so many people learned about anime via DBZ and how there was a lot people who stuck around anime and there were plenty of people who didn't get into anime/they only liked DBZ.

I highly doubt that's going to happen, ever. Fruits Basket is the best selling manga ever released in America, and this is the only best-seller list it's been on, and the highest it's made it to was #15, for one week. The vast majority of manga sells under 10,000 copies, and would be considered a dismal failure by anyone not in the anime/manga industry.

Fruits Basket (and, I guess, Naruto too, though the show is achieving a DBZ-like popularity so it's more understandable) is a stand-alone success.

You know, I posted on the manga forums a little while ago asking why Naruto's entries into the top 100 hundred list weren't being reported anymore on this site and the answer I got was that people are sick of Naruto and don't want to hear about it anymore. Well, some of us are sick of Fruits Basket, but ANN still reports on it.

I'm so sick of Naruto bashers.
