Translation sans the PR:
| Quote: | | Toei Animation Co., Ltd. has awarded FUNimation Entertainment with the North American DVD distribution rights to one of Toei's signature animé series One Piece. |
If we bothered to look at their sales figures, we'd realize that they were a more profitable company than 4Kids; but we took Al Kahn's money without thinking.
| Quote: | | As part of the company's distribution of One Piece, FUNimation will produce an uncut English-speaking adaptation of the hugely successful brand from the original Japanese. |
The last dub was so embarassing, even dub fans and children under 12 were panning it.
| Quote: | One Piece has been renewed for a third season on Cartoon
Network's popular Toonami block and FUNimation will produce that version as well. |
We hope people will actually watch the show this time.
| Quote: | | Said Yosuke Kobayashi, President and COO of Toei Animation, Inc.: “FUNimation is the recognized industry leader in the distribution of the most prominent brands in animé entertainment. We are delighted to join with this outstanding company in the launch of a new and enhanced version of One Piece for the North American market.” |
Help us, Gen Fukanaga. You're our only hope.
| Quote: | | “We regard this agreement with Toei Animation as the continuation of a long and successful association. Fans have demanded an uncut version of One Piece that is more true to the original, and that is exactly what we will deliver. We are confident that fans will like what they see,” said Gen Fukunaga, president and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment. |
(Fukanaga)We told you we were a better choice than Kahn, Yosuke, but did you listen? Nooo! Now thanks to us, people will actually buy merchandise for One Piece instead of just Naruto. |

Nicely put. I heard a rumor that FUNimation actually got "One Piece" back in early 2003, but Toei Animation yanked it from them because they realized that by giving it to the company that just made their other big franchise ("Dragonball") a big hit in America, they may have been ignoring that were other companies that may have had more to gain from it. And now this.
I just hope that Cartoon Network runs a FUNimation version of the first 143 episodes that 4Kids cut and gutted, and sometime early next year instead of after the series ends. I also hope that FUNimation and Cartoon Network does some really good advertising to get people that were put off with 4Kids to watch this version. |
