Maybe it is just early, but I was surprised and dissapointed that "What is Protoculture Addicts" is the top choice in the poll. How do you visit this site and not know about PA?

I read NTUSA, AI, as well as PA, and I have to say it has quickly become my favorite. The new glossy look is fantastic, and I believe it delivers more depth and insight than typically seen in the other mags. If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend you do!

I felt the same way. I wonder if a lot of visitors to the site only come for the encyclopedia or messageboards and generally skip the main page? I dunno. It baffles me. Shocked

Not that the poll really needs another option, but there probably ought to have been one for the pdf versions of PA from DriveThruRPG. The actual print version is great (they've finally started carrying it at several stores that I frequent), but I like being able to carry around the back catalog on a USB drive for those moments when I've got some down time at work. The electronic version is also a good solution for all those who would like to try it out but can't seem to find a copy....

It would be nice if the options "I used to get it / read it but I dont anymore" series were added to it. None of the current options fit it.

I like keeping in tune with what's on TV today in Japan, so I dont really read the US magazines much anymore. Occasionally I will put in a review of some new anime, or make a fanpic and send it in to Newtype, but otherwise life is kind of busy for me right now.

I just got my copy of #90 in the mail yesterday. What great timing this poll has. I haven't sat down and read the mag yet (it really looks nice though), so the closest option for me was "I want to check Protoculture Addicts out, but I haven't had the chance yet." I also read NewType and Anime Insider. I can't wait to see how how PA stacks up against the competition.

Everytime I've checked it out in a store, all the release dates have been two to three months old. I don't particularly feel like reading an outdated magazine. And usually all the "news" that's in it I've already heard elsewhere. Although I do like that the magazine actually reviews releases with a rating system, I'm more of a manga fan than an anime fan, and there aren't a lot of manga reviews. I'll just stick with NT and the Internet.

I visited the site for years for main page and encyclopedia and never used the message board and wasn't very familiar with PA as I hadn't ever heard much about it. From my understanding however, last year there was only one released? Or very few at any rate, I am not certain, but since it wasn't a regular release that may have kept it from peoples eyes. I only just got my first copy the other day, I subscribed from hearing you people on this board and thought it sounded like something I should check out. It's pretty looking, but I haven't delved into it deeply yet, but I will.

Where's the "No" option? =/

I know what PA is,I'm pretty dang sure it's something that I'd like, but overall I'm just not that interested in the magazine.

As far as anime magazines go,I pick up an issue of Newtype every now and then.

Same for me. I've always wanted to check out the magazine but never had the chance to see what the magazine was like. But when #89 hit the stores I decided to pick one up and see if I enjoy the writing/content and I did so I subscribe during one of rightstuf sales and issue #90 was my first issue. Also I upgraded to first class service seeing as how I am on the west coast and my first issue took about 4 weeks to reach me.

If they were sold here I probably would. I don't think it's sold here since I haven't seen a copy before.

I don't think I will ever really pick it up becuase I don't see it in any stores around me and I don't want to pay high shipping prices for a magazine to be mailed to me. I do enjoy reading Anime Insider, but probably only because I get it for free from the library. I've read a variety of mags and Animerica was my favorite, so ever since they stopped publishing I really haven't been able to find an anime mag to take its place.

If I ever find a copy in a store though or can borrow one, I will give it a shot. The only magazine I suscribe to right now is Shojo Beat.

"I don't read any anime print magazines and I don't intend to."

Well, I don't read any anime print magazines, but that's because I don't feel like spending money on them. If they were free, I'd go for it, but as of now, they have nothing to offer me, or they are just not telling me well enough what they have to offer me.

Okay... so I've never read Protoculture Addicts...

But I've pruchased Anime Insider and NewType, and flicked through several such magazines at the newsagent. While NewType was pretty good, I still don't think it (and all the other magazines I've seen) are not worth the $15 or $24 that they cost. I particularly didn't like Anime Insider because it's just not my thing, it reads as if it's targeted at the kind of anime fans that I hate to be associated with (ie rabid fangirls/ignorant fanboys).

And through quickly flicking through other magazines, they look similar to Anime Insider, so I never bother buying them. From this, one can't help but think that all such magazines are crap.

I might give Protoculture Addicts a try. If a free copy happens to be right nearby, otherwise I'm not going to go into the effort of finding a copy to read.

The only things that the PA and all the other anime magazines have that the internet doesn't have is probably some exclusive interview, or little trinkets or posters because most of the information in the magazines are already week old news because of the internet. Sure I do like the pictures, and maybe their previews, but I can always look up animenewsnetwork.com or google up a search on a particular anime to see reviews and previews of it.

The magazine subscription industry is dying because of the internet. The magazines are usually printed 4-6 prior to their release to newstands, and then something significant may have change when the final copy of the magazine goes to the publishers to get made, and the internet has quick access to everyone who wants information.

I would like to read what PA is all about, but for the most part, it's probably a rehash of everything we already knew from ANN weeks before hand, or any other anime news websites.
