I think that the main problem with the game is that they intentionally make it SUCK until like... the third world...

But yeah... if you have most of the upgrades, the game actually plays really competently (moving backwards is still retarded though)

...

They should've just ditched all that "get the upgrades" crap and just made a friggin linear game where you have all the upgrades and abilities and you're just blasting through different worlds; it would've been much better that way.

(in fact, when you have most of the stuff, play all 8 worlds over again and see for yourself... it really makes me wonder why the game wasn't like that instead...)

Still, this was definitely a lot better than the horrid PS3 and 360 ones...

wow....when I asked yesterday I didn't think i'd be back within 24 hours. awesome.

hmmm....i haven't gotten a chance to play this one yet- would it be better if I played with the other controller? Is that even an option? I know the point of playing it on the Wii is for the Wii-mote but its the system I was lucky to find/ able to afford so its all I got.

The rating was a bit odd too- I understand the frustrations with the game but an F even when it had good graphics? Surely not a D+ or D- not that either improve the grade much.

We're kinda running through some older reviews here as we work our way up to some newer games, so forgive the lateness of some of these.

Also I played Sonic and the Secret Rings and christ did it suck.

Agh! As a Sonic fan, I'm REALLY getting frustrated with the games. What HAPPENED? How could such a great game series tank like this? It's really disheartening...
At least the boxset of SatAM came out recently, and I have the Sonic Mega Collection, so I can pretend the franchise is how it used to be...

I've got limited time, though, so...I don't really have time to play through a bad/mediocre game long enough to get all of the stuffthat IS good about the game.

(As for the YouTube video...I can't get to it on my computer. ^^; Yeah, I know, it sucks.)

But yes, if you look at the video, you can see the potential...

I still think it was a stupid idea to intentionally water down the game when it plays wonderfully when you have all the stuff...

You could say that it doesn't baby you, but still...

They need to make a sequel where the focus is just blazing through the levels.

I rented this "game" a while ago and it was terrible, my soul was just about crushed after the inane introductory level, and the ensuing levels bored me to tears. I put down the game and started playing dead rising after the fourth level so I can't judge the later ones, but I'm sure they were terrible anyway. I felt like I had no control over this game, I could literally put the controller down, and sonic could navigate through most of any given level by himself. It's not like there was any variety to this game, don't get me started on the lame objectives, DON'T BREAK THE POTS SONIC...NOOOO!!!!!! Also the cutscenes were lame, they were so static, Ultimate Spider-man was far better equipped to render dynamic cutscenes while maintaining a comic book milieu. Shoot those big words seem out of place better dumb this review down. Dis Hure game be teh suxxorz!
In the end I can only give thanks to a higher power that I merely rented this game and did not pay the full price for it.

Alas, my poor childhood hero, Sonic.

Will thou ever return to thine 16-bit glory?

Yeah, I rented this game too and returned it pretty quickly. I did notice it getting better as I got the upgrades but the pace was so slow that I didn't have the patience to keep it up. It definitely did not live up to the hype of some Wii fans (and Sonic fans).

I doubt it, there really hasn't been a Sonic game in recent memories where I felt the same sort of speed/out of controlness that I felt in previous games.

Andrew Yoon wrote:
The objectives themselves are mundane, offering players a variety of challenges, such as “destroy 5 enemies” to “destroy 10 enemies.” Some objectives dare you to go around the level in a constant loop half a dozen times,

I mean I wouldn't mind replaying levels but when the mission were so dumb that even the original Tony Hawk game would laugh at it.

At the very least, Secret Rings can be commended for its strong production values. The graphics are some of Wii's best yet:

This is basically the only thing keeping this game from being the MD Geist of games. I love the actual look and graphical feel of the game, in fact I don't think that Sonic has ever looked better.

it looks like a title that's almost pushing a Gamecube to its limits.

I believe the term is two game cubes duck taped together....well that what one developer said, after calling it a POS.

All in all it's nor worth a rental, hell it's not worth a free rental seeing as how your never going to get back those 4-5 hours of your life back. Hell basically every game out for the Wii is nothing but a rental. Paper Mario is fun but it just doesn't last as long as I hoped it would. It's all up to Smash and Galaxy to save this year.

I have the same sentiment of severe doubt. Thus my words were an expression of dismay rather than an actual question. Wink

Eh, ya... But, I will say that I did get some amusement out of the multiplayer in this. 3D Sonic games CAN be good (personally love both Sonic Adventure 1 and 2) despite so many people thinking that they can't be, this one just wasn't one of them though...

Out of all the new games, Sonic Riders was the best, not as a Sonic game thought but just as a game., I like Adventure on the Dreamcast a littlebit but 2 wasn't really worth it. The PS3 one, from what I played of it had so many glitches it wasn't funny and The Secret rings had some cool fast paced running, that's it, bad controls, less than split second timing.....boo...The only games for Wii out now are Twilight Princess and............RE4 Wii version (haven't played it)? I dunno only TP I guess, OH and Super Paper Mario is pretty good, Haven't played Mario Party for it yet and WarioWare wasn't that fun on it, to me anyway. Wii Sports is still one of the best things for it.
