I find it highly annoying that all of this fresh anime stuff is popping up on Sky TV whilst im stuck with Virgin Media..

Wow. Came on the site at 9.09pm. Saw that. Now it's on my TV!
Now presents the difficult and potentially expensive task of recording it every night. I don't get the TV at that time of night (but the whole thing's repeated about three times between 9pm and 6am, so I'll manage). |

I'm glad that they are finally bringing more anime to the UK
 annoyed that I won't get to watch much of it because I'm going off to University in 3 days

Whoo Hoo!
Yippee... etc etc. Finally a channel dedicated to Anime in OUR country at last!!! I immediately rushed to my nearest sky-enabled tele and had a gander. But what is this? Dubbed?? Bugger... Oh well, let's hope they put some subbed stuff on some time
They're off to a good start, what with Ghost in the Shell, Full Metal Alchemist and Escaflowne... true classics from all accounts. (Admititedly, i've only seen Escaflowne)

Did you miss Anime Network and Rapture then? Bar kiddy stuff and the odd feature or Ghibli film or whatever on terrestrial channels we've not really had anime on Cable since they stopped showing it on SciFi. |

At last. It's about time. Better late than never, of course.
Rapture doesn't have much anime. I rarely touch it, but now with a dedicated anime channel, the skies are looking bright. |

It's great to see an anime channel in the UK - looks like things are going well for televised anime in the UK, as the ADV slot has expanded on propeller.
I have to say, although there's all this talk of "it will never last" (rightly based on past slots coming and going) ADV seemed very confident about there slot at Amecon (there were giving out oads of "Anime network" prizes and even hosted a "Friday Night Live" style panel presented by Stewart Claw). Hopefully they're getting a good audience

Blinked and missed them - they both only ever had anime a few hours a week. I need anime 24/7. Sheesh, it's 2.30am and I've only watched 4 hours today

A few years ago it was CNX and the late hours of the Sci-fi channel (on Thursdays) that were the only trickle of anime onto the screens of the UK. CNX became Toonami and eventually went the way of the Dodo, but not before going from pretty good to almost pure suck. Sci-fi stopped showing anime ages ago (and started showing light porn and horror movies in the wee hours).
Rapture came and went a few times, it was on until this past Summer (didn't get to finnish Exel Saga) when it's ongoing dispute w/ Sky over it's EPG fees caused de-listing and then eventual closure (non-listed channels are hardly seen and very little revenue can be generated because not many at all are watching). This year has is turning into a bumper year. For a while Robotboy was on BBC1 late last year/early this year. Rapture was showing twice a week an hour of programming (until they died). Then there were a few movies courtesy of Film4 and then Propeller started it's Anime Network block which blossomed to every day for 2 hours. Now we have a dedicated channel again, even if only for 9 hours a day - but hey, they are pretty much A-list items (Planetes is excellent - I'll mention them as no one else has yet) and most of the Anime we are getting is new to this shore now. Sure, it's all dubbed right now but I'm happy just to have anime on TV. Apparently Anime Central would like to do subbed as well (maybe on a repeat?) if they thought ratings (because this is TV) would support it. I'm just happy to be a Sky+ subscriber. When I get home I get to watch the full block I recorded. |
