I wanted to get into Hoshin Engi, but I've already gotten bored by the third book. I don't think it'll be that big here, especially since Soul Hunter's been discontinued.

The Houshin Engi artist is only half of the equation. Shiki's story is by the same author as 12 Kingdoms and Ghost Hunt, both of which have fan followings.

I'm really excited about this.
I've been a fan of Soul Hunter for many years, and I've been keeping up with the releases of the Hoshin Engi manga. Personally, I'm a big fan of Ryu Fujisaki- despite the fact that he hasn't done a whole lot.
Also, Shiki sounds like it has an interesting premise.

Ooh, another Ryu Fujisaki work! Though, I think his strengths lie in weird-ass comedy, rather than horror... But it still sounds like it'll be an interesting adaption.

I really like Hoshin Engi myself, but I think it's kinda difficult to get into at first. The later volumes really pay off though, in my opinion. What with the plot twists out of nowhere. Anyway, I think my favorite work of his is called Sakuratetsu Taiwahen, or something... It's a short parody manga that had me dying of laughter the whole way through. Definitely worth looking for if you're into random humor.

Yeah, you can't judge a manga by its artist. The guy who drew Death Note ended up drawing the steaming piece of crap that is Blue Dragon (same universe as the game, but a different story).

And I am a HUGE fan of Fuyumi Ono, so this excites me quite a bit.

EDIT: Spelling Error

FU.JI.SA.KI. RYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! (putitaki tyu?)

I love this man so much-- his whimsical art style, his crazy sense of humor, everythin. He's the one that made me passionate about manga. It's a shame that he doesn't do that many works, and that some of his works (like Sakuratetsu Taiwahen) don't really hit it off with a lot of people. I can understand it though; he's weird with a capital R.

I can't wait to read this! I think his humor works are a lot better than his old sci-fi/horror stuff, so I'm a little anxious. But still. yaaaaaay!

Here's a fan of Blue Dragon though, the manga. I agree the story's terrible, but the art and the fanservice are sooooo delicious Very Happy Too bad it's been discontinued.

As for Houshin Engi, I love the manga. One of the few Shonen manga that doen't drag on forever (I hate shonen manga that never ends). The art is great and I loved the plot twists and I love Fujisaki's anachronistic retro-scifi style. And Taikoubou's one of the best manga protagonists ever.

Definitely looking forward to this one.

Very Happy YES! I love Fujisaki (Hoshin Engi is my favorite manga ever, and I got the Putitakityu artbook as well). I like 12 kingdoms also so this should rock.

You should really give Hoshin Engi a chance, it is one of the best shonen manga ever.

It seems like Gatsu likes to get in with a negative shot on a lot of these threads.
I'm enjoying Hoshin Engi very much. Already the difs between it & the anime are making it much more interesting than the anime

Yea, the tone of the anime is more...I dunno, serious(?) And it's actually a bit boring at times. I say if you liked the anime you'll love the manga, and if you didn't like the anime, there's still a very good chance you'll enjoy the manga, just because it does feel really different. Plus the anime only covers like 4 or 5 volumes out of 23
