I wonder why in America we don't have that mny different types of toys. There are normally like 10 or so Happy Meal Toys per month.

I remember when people use to freak out over the Beanie Babies toys or the Disney Glases but 66 different Sgt. Frog Toys?

is it because people don't collect as much here or what?

I picked up the Sgt Frog magazine because it appeared to have a watch (Yep, & a coin purse & a stencil) & it has the promo pix in a little magazine(check-off). It's not all that much. Don't forget you have 5 main characters, so several poses of each ads up. They're something like charms or phone strap thingies or something. It's more just figures-each character in several different poses, 2 or 3 each holding a McDonalds product & others without.
Unless those are pix of a different McDonalds promo.

There are probably practical reasons why it would be inefficient to distribute *that* many unique Happy Meal toys for a similar promotion in the United States, but, even if it were feasible, I could see the "nanny state"-types who want to legislate and/or sue McDonald's out of business making a huge stink about McDonald's coercing children to bother their parents to eat there dozens of times within the span of a couple of months just so they could have a complete collection of the promotional toys.

It would be a public relations fiasco.

I remember when Burger King had their Pokemon toy promotion. Weren't there about 20-30 of them, including the two rare Mew & Mewtwo ones?

At least at my local BK, they had a "Trading Night" every week of the promotion where people could come in, get a free small milkshake with the purchase of 2 kids meals, and freely trade their Pokemon toys with others.

Most of the people there were men 30+ years old that looked like they would be more at home in a comic book store, obviously only there to jump on the bandwagon and probably to sell the valuable toys on EBay.

Wasn't there also some Disney Anniversary thing a few years back, with one toy for every Disney movie (Animated, at least.) up to that point?

In any case, I think it's awesome that there are so many little toys for a promotion like this! Though I hope things don't end up like they always seem to do in the McDonald's around here, where some locations only have one of the toy variants. D:

There's nothing like going to McDonald's in Japan and opening a Happy Meal to get a Sgt. Frog toy. Why does it just go together so well?

I know. We shouold get those!

Also, with "Hayate the Combat Butler" being sponsored by McDonald's, do you think they'll be next in line for toys?

It's too bad we'll probably not see something like this in the US for anime any time soon. I'd start eating at McDonalds again if they did that. Cool anime swag would be about the only reason to eat their tiny burgers. (Kind of like how I briefly ate their food again when they had G.I. Joe figures.)

Of course, before McDonalds here might consider duplicating the awesome frogsplosion over there, ADV needs to get off their duffs and release it here in North America.

If you're wondering why Sgt Frog goes with McDonalds, the frogs are often seen eating McDonalds. THe rich girl has her own personal McDonalds in her mansion.

If Naruto wanted to get more exposure and/or more money in their coffers, they could get a merchandising contract with McD or BK. Oh, the potential fan drool! I've seen Hello Kitty at my McDonald's.

And no, Richard J., I'm not following you intentionally, although it seems that way. Wink

Pokemon at BK

A whole lot of my friends were into beanie babies at its peak, including buying 2 or 3 or more sets of the mini beanie babies from McD, and we were women in our 20s. Wink
