This antics on the second DVD reminds me of a cross between Patlabor TV and Roy Mustang's gang in FMA. I did also miss the darker feel of the first volume but there are many nice character moments in the second volume. I find it hilarious how the girliest character takes care of Mercury (the Dog) who picks on the scariest character Olando, who in turn loves little kittens.
It is odd how the mixture of humor and seriousness really doesn't work for me in Full Metal Panic but works wonders for me here. I think part is due to the fact that I enjoy workplace based comedy like Planetes and Patlabor over the high school antics in Full Metal Panic, but can't say for sure. I'm looking forward to more volumes of this under regarded series. |
