Actually no, a lot of the people locally there, especially the members of the temple are up in arms over the matter. A few otaku might be nice, but when you have a mob of them coming, they really do displace the locals. |

I read about the local blogger and his complaints of suspicious dudes carrying big cameras and worries about the children's safety.
I think if the local shrine union / association decided to go ahead and release official merchandise themselves, they must have consulted with other locals and received the approval of the majority to go-ahead with the plan. (As in, the temple itself decided to make and sell Lucky Star merchandise themselves - that tells something)
From what I read on the Japanese newspapers, the local economy did receive a boost so they generally are pleased (at least those making a profit ) |
