Not that I disagreed with the reviewer over the flaws of the CG and reptitition, but I didn't think it was quite as bad. I even enjoyed it on some levels, not just for its action, but for the frankness of its subject matter (aside for some of the melodramatic scenes). Still, I think a better pre-One Year War production can be made, and without the needless CG animation ventures.

If Simoun is a sign of the best that can come of sub only DVDs (6 eps for $20 plus reasonable "free" bonus features), MS IGLOO is a sign of the worst that can come of sub only DVDs (3 eps plus booklet for $50). Thanks again for the over priced garbage BV! Rolling Eyes

Be glad that you can even get to see the Subbed released of the show, by right this project is not even for sale... and can only be viewed in the Bandai museum.

It is only by popular demand that they made the DVD version.

Another BVUSA bomb. Sweet. If they keep this up, they'll run themselves out of the U.S. market.

Why do companies like Geneon have to die while idiots like this survive?

I'm a UC fan and had high hopes for this when first hearing about it, but after seeing the first episode for myself, I was left disappointed. While I do have some problems with the artistic side of things, it's technical issues and the flagrant bucking of established canon that really bugs me.

- You know how weird it is to right off the bat see a Salamis class cruiser flipping around like an acrobat? What's the point of mobile suits if the Federation's mainstay ship has performance capabilities like that?

- The portrayal of Loum is just awful. The fight doesn't take within Side 5, nuclear weapons aren't used (so how the hell does Side 5 get completely obliterated?), and the ships all line of broadside for the battle (a tactic I don't think has ever been used in Gundam and is more suited for a Matsumoto work).

- The reason for the entire battle is completely re-worked too. Nope, this isn't a failed Zeon operation that General Revil so capably foiled, it's a trap!

I like to think of myself as a completist (I own G-Saviour for Christ's sake), but between my utter disdain for just the first episode alone and BVUSA's prices, I doubt IGLOO will ever work its way onto my shelves.

For $50 it can sit in a can stay there for all I care. It isn't $50 because it's a rare piece, it's $50 because it's BV.

With the amount of money that went into it would seem likely Bandai had intentions of eventually releasing these on DVD.

In regards to the music isn't one of the main battle songs in Igloo derived from one of the more commonly used First Gundam combat song?

Sadly enough Igloo is exactly what I've been wanting from Gundam ever since the 80s. It seems as though the franchise has been retelling the same story in different universes when what was needed is a different story in the same universe. Gundam Seed was the epitome of this trap since there are so many scene by scene replays from First Gundam, especially up to the point of the desert episodes.

I've always loved War in the Pocket and ever since have been waiting for another series where the main character wasn't a pilot. or at least didn't pilot the Gundam. I wish 0080 wasn't the commercial failure it was, since I'm sure Gundam would be really different today if it had succeeded.

With that said the execution of this series is disappointing. Everything in these episodes felt as though it was done on a tight budget. Most of the scenes take place in the same interiors giving it a claustrophobic feel. There is a lack of background characters giving a feel that they couldn't afford more models. I really wish this proposed treatment would have gotten a more traditional television presentation, but understand that the lack of variety of MS in the One Year War made it ideal for CG.

I'm still waiting for that UC story which takes place during the restructuring era of 0080-82 dealing with the repercussions of war and it's haunting legacy. It could be based around anything from an ex-Zeon hero turn unemployed post war vet to a humanitarian war aid relief squad like in Pumpkin Scissors. There is so much more that can be done in the UC setting that I find it sad that Sunrise continues to commission out more alternate universe stuff that treads all too familiar grounds.

Wow, so much hate for this series. I actually quite liked it. I know it could be repetitive, but the fact that people finally got a series that wasn't overly Mobile Suit centric and showed exactly what the title said it was about, The Hidden side of the One Year War and the people that went unnoticed during it. By sticking to it's theme I could forgive the series it's formulaic style of Oliver is given the task of testing a weapon concept and things go wrong and somebody dies. That's kind of you know, his job as an engineer to supervise these tests. And each episode still brought something new and explored a different part of the One Year War. Ultimately for a series that was essentially meant to stay in the Bandai Mueseum and was clearly done by the B-Team of CG Animators, this series turned out pretty good.

I would have at least awarded it a B-, but hey, I guess since it's not Haruhi or whatever overwrought Slice of Life series is about to be released on DVD it's just not going to get that.

All right, in all fairness, I agree with most that Bandai Visual is pretty much the absolute worst licensor out there right now. They constantly botch something on whatever they try to release, be it faulty DVD's, Dubtitles, no sub or no Dub (basically they are horrendously lazy when it comes to even giving an inkling that they give a damn) and charge almost three times the price of your average anime DVD....FOR LESS! Short term business policy is going to cost them.

I've seen parts of the series, although I don't rely know the plot, the graphics are oke, not good, not bad, but oke.
But unfortunately I can't quite put this in the same row as the various Final Fantasy movies. More because it's been made far after them. And because of that, I don't think they made any real progress. Motion caption is available for a few years now, and the same can be said for CGI. And I've seen better results.

I noticed that when on a ship, the corridors were all dark until like 30 to 50 cm of the ground. I guess they did that to mask the movement of the lower legs. If so, than that means they acknowledge the fact that the leg movements are bad, and so is the skin quality (around 22m11s there is a rely close capture of an eye, try comparing it with Splinter Cell: Double Agent). In fact, the whole scenery is dark. Now, I know that there in space, but if you look at it's 2D sister series, it almost always in a bright color, white, cyan, pinkish. So my guess is that they also know that the graphics are not what it's supposed to be.
Sometimes it looks as if I were watching CGI-movies from HALO or something. I think it due to the clothing, not the design, but the graphical quality. The suit the ships captain has just a few seconds before the first battle reminds me of a HALO Marine on earth, same for the female, only than more of a Marine in full body armor in space, you know, those black ones.

If you'd ask me, the facial expressions are a little dull, but way better done than most CGI expressions. The bigger expressions are clearly visible, but they lack the minor, more detailed expressions.

But the thing they did well and above my expectations, is the movement of the hair.

What are you complaining about?
SOMETIMES English dubs look good, and you won't have to read. But the writers intention is to watch it in Japanese, or els he would have done it in English or some other language. Besides that, dubs mostly sound weird.

One last thing to end this post. Anyone that has seen the first episode, doesn't the flag at the begin remind you of some tragic event somewhere around 1940. Same can be said for the captains hat (the bird) and the conversation in the dark and poor lit room where this super weapon is first revealed to the viewers (take a look a the piece of ribbon with the text).
