My Neighbour Totoro just seems to keep selling and selling and selling!

Are there seriously that many people in Japan who hadn't bought Totoro? It seems like it's on this list quite a bit.

I'm kind of interested in knowing what was included in Clannad's limited release.

nb: CLANNAD volume 2 R2 DVD LE contents - I listed them off on this page in the "What did you just buy" thread - third from the bottom post. As a side note: They're using clear plastic hinged cases for the DVDs. They're not CD sized jewel cases but the same size as a standard DVD case.

Minami-ke hangs on strong two weeks in a row. Surprising for a late-night anime, but happy to see nonetheless!

Hahaha... they renamed Ratatouille to "Remi no Oishii Resutoran" or "Remi's Delicious Restaurant". Hilarious, we're not the only region market that renames titles completely different than the original one.

I've been out of the loop a little as of late on what's hot in Japan and sadly I only recognize few of these titles. I'm glad to see Totoro remain on the list, but I certainly wish some more classic shows would remain high sellers. In my opinion only of course, it seems that Japan is releasing anime in more the disposable form these days, with new shows instantly replacing old and being thrown by the wayside. When I started watching anime, I think that there was alot more sense of nostalgia than a rush to gobble up everything available, toss it aside and jump to devour the next series. This may be merely a perception as an American who started out as a fan in the $30 per one episode anime/fansub VHS trading channel days.

Any thoughts or particularly fun, romantic or exciting shows I might be missing lately?

It's more sad to see someone claim to watch 11 episodes of the show and than state that Kyou and Tomoyo are submissive girls.... when the first ten minutes of the first episode shows otherwise.

The World of GOLDEN EGGS is awesome.
It's not the type of anime you'd expect to see here, but it's set in the U.S. and done completely in computer animation.

The look (ie dated character designs) reminds me of early 90's teen films.

The thing about Japan is that entertainment products have no staying power. Each release goes through a hot period (often just one week for many products) before vanishing from sales charts. Compare this to western markets, where a DVD or video game might continue to sell for years.

Consequently, it takes some kind of re-release (i.e. the new Totoro DVD) for Japanese consumers to buy older properties, no matter how famous they might be.
