That is awesome. I know nothing of the story of the girl, but that the government is sponsoring this means hilarity will ensue. I wonder what North Korea will say/do about this.

The abduction issue has been a very serious one for the Japanese, however the fact that North Korea returned some of the abductees is a step forward to admitting what they did. However, whether they are telling the truth about the others remains a mystery. Only North Korea knows. Megumi's daughter was allowed to go to Japan to see her grandparents, as well as the other family members of the abductees.

If she is alive, she is still in North Korea, against her will. The problem with whomever might still be over there is that they are forced to say that they want to stay, which is an outright blatant lie. And if Megumi is still alive, she was taken from her daughter for whatever reasons the North Koreans might have thought of.

If this was a regular story everyone would probably think it's silly. A 13 year old Japanese girl getting kidnapped out of the blue by North Korean agents, brought to North Korea and is today either dead or still alive somewhere.

Especially the part with the urn. After long time of categoric denial by the North Korean government they admitted they did abduct Megumi and returned an urn supposedly with her remains. When the Japanese analyzed the ash they discovered the remains of five different people but not Megumi's.

Megumi's parents had to fight long and hard to get the abduction officially accepted. It's good to see they get support to tell their story to the world.

One thing I have had with this issue is I never heard about it in the US. US media always seems to cover the nuclear stuff with North Korea, but never once have I seen coverage of the abductions of Japanese citizens on US news. Never.

This happened the same year I got married, 1977. Megumi was 13 years old at the time. Now the ironic thing about this is that it could be animated by North Korean inbetweeners. But I doubt the Japanese studios would allow that to happen to this one.

This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen here. You don't have any idea that inbetweening are done by South Korean studios, do you? Rolling Eyes

First, you are so naive about the purpose of UN. Second, US has delayed its UN membership fee payment for a long, long time. Third, North Korea has no oil.

The Japanese government using their pop-culture animation to sway foreign interest against North Korea. Sad.

i understand how bad the situation is and I feel for the girl but it's hard to sympathize with Japan itself because of their own past horrible deeds in invading other countries namely Korea and China... and they have yet to sincerely apologize to either country for more suffering then actually publicized...

assuming she's still alive, she would be about 33-34 years old now. i don't understand how she could be there against her will.
