As much as I love Gintama, that thought scares me. There's so much that can go wrong with the localization. If it happens, hopefully it will be done very carefully Crying or Very sad

I don't know what Anime Gintama are about but I'm very interested to learn about it after seeing this Asian cosplayer as Kagura from Gintama http://www.cosplay.com/costume/110960/

Maybe I will wait until it is aired in where I'm right now.

Yeah, based on the fansub, Gintama looks like a challenge to translate. If it wasn't for the translator notes I'd miss most of the references (but I'd probably still love it;-).

Can't imagine what a dub would be like.

The bad thing is that in the anime, they parodize old anime and new anime. For example, they have a Death Note quote in there but they also have a 1990's anime (forgot which one). It's also got a lot about Japanese history and culture. Americans wouldn't be able to get and enjoy the jokes.

I was at Kinokuniya in Shinjuku yesterday, and on the 7th floor they have english books, including english translated mangas...

the japanese walking by would be surprised or excited to see mangas in english, pick one up, flip it around, and make excited comments with their friends...

and 80% of the time, they picked up this Gintama .... i suppose it is really well known...

Gintama (at least the manga) does well in Japan. It just doesn't have much of an American following.
