........When they say "21+ anime convention," the words "mature" and "professional" and NOT the first that come to my mind. Thankfully, this doesn't sound like HentaiCon, in which case, wow, that's kind of funny.

I don't see how this accomodates older fans.
There is no pre-registration. There is also an escalating registration fee. This seems more to be more of an inconvenience to those who work for a living and have to plan around these events. |

IT sounds like an interesting concept. It would be neat to see the industry people that attend for sure. The price struture seems a bit odd though.

Wait...what?
after 250 people register, they'll keep raising the prices to pre-register? ....I checked it out, but I don't really know about that...It doesn't really sound exciting or interesting to me. It's very formal, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but...meh... I think this is great for adults who need to know what it is so they don't have to feel...."dumb" when it comes for children watching anime...but then again, this is just a random thought. |

If I wasn't obligated to staff at another convention that weekend (an obligation that I'm not terribly happy to have in the first place *sigh*), I would be jumping on this without a second thought.
I may sound like an old fogey, but the idea of having a con that's not so inundated with teens is a definite win. |

I'm still a bit wary - I might go next year if I hear good things about it. I'm just concerned that it'll get the 21+ fanbrats, which in a way, are worse than the teenage ones. * A majority of those teen fanbrats will grow and mature, but anime has a wonderful knack
 for attracting the ones who don't.
I'd love to see serious panels with industry professionals discussing things like piracy and the current anime market, tailored to adults who understand capitalism. I'd hang around here more, but basically the only people I can stand are the staff members and subscribers. * There's a difference between fanbrat and fan. When I was 14, I used to endlessly send smutfic links to friends who didn't want to see it. At the age of 21, I'm embarrassed of that behaviour. |

Something like this definitely appeals to someone like me, who's been feeling a major divide the last 10 years I've been to conventions. Nowadays, I rarely ever see individuals who revel in the same series I used to...
Unfortunately, this is in RI (which is kinda a stretch for me), and the escalating admission prices are definitely a turnoff. |

$65 starting is a lot to ask for a tiny start-up convention that doesn't really sound that different from any other convention.
The artical mentions "academic panels" which might be interesting, but are not actually mentioned on the site. The only specifics actually mentioned on the website are a few of the guests |

What? Does RI somehow have a higher Family Guy fanbase because the show is set there? That makes little sense to me. |

I personally think it's a nice idea. I know many people get tired of dealing with tons of little out of control kids at other cons running around with no supervision. It also provides a nice chance for older fans to mingle with other old fans who either are simply more their age or hopefully more fans from the "old days" if you will. Plus it also allows those of us who do enjoy more adult material to not have to wait til the freaking wee hours of the night to go a related panel. The higher price is a bit steep but as they said it's made that way to guarantee they break even basically. I'm sure if the first year is a success following years will have lower prices. If I lived closer I'd go and support it.

I was identifying with the words "academic" and "professional" until the part about there being a "costume fashion show."
This con sounds like it took the craziest ideas from the animecons ML and decided they could run an actual con this way (especially with that harebrained pricing scheme). Running a con with unproven and unresearched ideas - isn't this how these same Anime Boston people got 10-hour lines? |
