I would have loved to go to this, but all of my friends absolutely refused to go, and I was too nervous to go alone. I've been to one in Japan, but I was with a group of people.

This one looks nice. A lot more artsy and higher class than the one I was at.

It's not a maid cafe. It's a Murakami gallery with waitresses. Rolling Eyes

Well, it certainly looks like an interesting concept. I found the plexiglass inspiration funny.

I'd check this out if I were in the area. Especially if the food is as good as it supposedly is.

Minor error I noticed: the second interviewee's name is inconsistent between the section's heading and the name she is given in the body of the interview.

I already see some people I know wanting to check this out to see what kind of feel they will get that they can't get in Akihabara. Me? It could go either way, but I still haven't checked out Akihabara yet.

They need to rethink hiring some of those maids. Especially the one in the thumbnail on the sidebar.

Ooh, good eye. Yes, the name of the second interviewee is definitely Sandra, not Susan.

Can somebody fix this?

The artwork is (or at least should be) interesting enough in and of itself - adding a maid café element just feels tacky, gimmicky and a tad sleazy. What will they think of next - an exhibition of the works of Edward Hopper in a Hooters franchise?

Woah, a Cloe article! Anime hyper Nice job! To be honest, I think this place looks like a lot of fun, and I'd totally go if I lived in the area. It combines several things I like, and.. maybe it's just me, but I really want to jump around and run amuck in the squid-bedroom.

Kind of a redundant statement, don't you think? This is pretty tame compared to what they have in Tokyo. Maid cafes, imouto cafes, maid dating, you name it. I'm often amazed at the disconnect between otaku culture in the US and in Japan. I'm not saying either is better than the other, but if I was going to get up in arms about any of it I'd probably target the stuff in Japan long before bringing up the watered down stuff on this side of the pond.

Indeed. But, somehow, overtly selling sexually objectified minimum wage workers as masturbatory fantasies to the socially disfunctional seems less disturbing when it's not being used to drum up interest for an art gallery.

It would appear to be a narrowing disconnect. However, since I don't consider myself to be an otaku (nor am I Japanese or American for that matter) I can generally maintain the stance of a bemused and somewhat nauseated onlooker.

I wasn't getting up in arms about anything - just expressing my personal opinion that some things would be better left in Tokyo. Or the 1950s. Whichever is nearer.
