I've said it before in past posts (or similar phrases) and I'll say it again, "the greatest anime there will ever be is the Dragon Ball franchise" (appropriately, it's over a billion dollars).

Dude,You literally took the words from my mouth. I've been saying the *EXACT* same thing and as we can quite clearly see...the truth definitely does speak for it's self.

DB/Z/GT greatest of all time Cool

Dragon Ball is certainly one of the most influential titles around and it definitely set the standard for Shonen Jump's future franchises. But greatest anime ever? That's a bit of a stretch.

I grew up with DB and will always love it. It certainly set many standards for much of the contemporary anime.

Hmmm, has anyone seen The World of GOLDEN EGGS? That title has been on the Top 10 a lot in the past couple weeks.

It's a product of MTV Japan, and it's very popular with the older kiddies and young adults. So it isn't surprising that it sells a lot of DVDs. I've only seen a few episodes, but my impression was that it is primarily rude n' crude humor in a similar vein as "South Park" or "Beavis and Butthead". It is set in a small town in the USA, so a lot of the jokes are of the "look at the silly gaijin" or cultural disconnect variety. Animation is fourth-rate quick and easy CG stuff. I took a look out of curiosity, but I personally wouldn't pick up the DVDs if they were giving them away for free. I'm certainly not the target demographic, and I've always found this sort of "dumb and dumber" humor to be as funny as an impacted tooth. Your opinion, of course, may vary. Smile

Son-Kun, you posted it was a stretch for me to say the Dragon Ball franchise is the the greatest anime ever. That may be true but other people would agree and disagree. The same thing can be argued for other series Pokemon, Yugioh, Gundam, Naruto, etc.

I've watched the whole thing... It's stupid humor on the surface, but actually it goes above that a bit by being mostly ad-libbed, and having a very strange interconnectedness that links together all the seemingly unrelated episodes. By the end of the show you've seen about 40 little viginetes about the fictional town and all the people in it, and you sort of have a sense of how everyone is connected to each other. Often something that's happening in the background of one episode will come up in a later episode, etc...

It's definitely quite popular in Japan: It seems to always be the video playing in the video rental stores on the TVs there.

If you ever see someone screaming "It's not a bra!", that's a quote from the show.

One other interesting fact is that the show airs with English subtitles hard-subbed onto the show, supposedly to help teach people english... although the subs are quite horrid Smile. I suppose it's because the show is actually supposed to take place in the US, maybe?
